[Schitt’s Creek] That’s how I felt about Roland on the show. Moira was a close second.
I’d flip the order, but yeah.
Eddie Haskel
Yeah, Sheldon Cooper is who immediately came to mind as soon as I saw the thread title. For a long time I couldn’t even watch The Big Bang Theory just because Sheldon was so over-the-top annoying. All I could think about was how if someone actually acted like that in real life, no one would even for one minute be willing to live with him, be friends with him, or be around him at all.
And since you mentioned “South Park”, I also nominate Randy Marsh.
I feel that Randy’s family helps shape his awfulness. In fact, Randy is the only member of that family I’ve seen express love for the others without any prompting.
…by the way…where the hell does Shelley go to school? I don’t recall ever seeing her at Stan’s school.
disregarding this post, post haste.
South Park Junior High School?
Murphy Mason in In The Dark. While she is quite likeable, she is also extremely manipulative and is only out for herself, even willing to betray her friends to get what she wants. At best, she’s a total trainwreck, and it gets worse as the show goes on. She uses her blindness and her willingness to have sex with anyone as a way to get what she wants, and often pays the price for it.
But it’s easy to overlook that. She is even self-aware and knows how awful she is. And she’s very funny, with a strong sarcastic sense of humor. Even knowing how awful she can be, you want to see more of her.
Master Shake
I only watched clips of the show but I hate Meatwad more.
No kidding. How 'bout a little fire, Scarecrow?
Your last line just kills me! ![]()
The Jeff Foxworthy Show was a pleasant enough family sitcom until some producer must have decided they needed to add excitement - and brought in a character (brother in law?) who behaved like the proverbial squirrel on caffeine. He must have been paid by the number of times he could shout “WOW!”.
I’m more than a little shocked no one has mentioned Larry David from Curb Your Enthusiasm. As funny is the show is, he is one of the most unpleasant characters on television. How does this guy have friends with the arrogant imposition of rules?
Can I nominate the entire proud family? in Disney’s cartoon named after them?
the thing i hate is when a semi-serious show like family matters or good times gets a JJ or Urkel … that’s what the public latches on to and undermines the show … especially in good times … sure it was trying to find humorous situations in grim circumstances like the grocery store episode (where the company is dumping bad meat in the ghetto grocery store) that still rings true in a lot of places
But once the exaggerated ghetto clown character gets popular they change the show and most of the seriousness goes out of the window and white America doesn’t have to face anything that makes them look bad …
Peggy Hill. Totally selfish, always ready to stab friends and family in the back for her own advantage. Completely convinced of her own intelligence, even though she’s an idiot. An utterly horrible person. I don’t understand why Hank puts up with her.
I don’t understand it either. And Hank also idolizes his boss-Buck Strickland–to an extent and Strickland is pretty awful person as well.
Maybe he has a thing for big feet.
Long-suffering Hank is a product of a dysfunctional home - doesn’t anyone remember his horrific father, Cotton? (talk about too awful to exist! Marrying Hank’s ex-girlfriend and producing baby 'G.H. -for ‘Good Hank’). He isn’t too bright himself, a simple mind living for beer, football, and propane. I think he thinks Peggy IS smart and a perfectly fine wife and mother.
Is he? I don’t recall him doing anything particularly awful. In fact I don’t remember him doing much at all.
I don’t think so. Remember when Peggy was put on trial in Mexico? Hank suggested letting her testify in Spanish. Her errors showed the court that she wasn’t a criminal, just an ignoramus who misunderstood what was going on, and what people were saying. Hank knows that she isn’t really that bright, and that she doesn’t speak Spanish that well.
