I saw the movie last night, and I’m going to take the highly mockable position that it’s the best action movie of the year.
It makes The Hulk feel like a wake. When The Matrix: Reloaded saw the opening action scene, it went and stood in a corner with a hangdog expression and a dunce cap. Cameron Diaz is amazing. She plays the best dingbat-with-a-heart-of-gold since Edith Bunker, and, unfortunately, I think that will be generally dismissed as “she’s just playing herself.’
This movie kicks ass, and I’m not afraid of being jeered and scoffed at for saying so. In fact, I welcome it. Someone has to stand up in defense of gaudy, hair-brained, farcical action movies that know their place, and apparently I’m that guy.
