chateau fruitopia

I once left a half full bottle of fruitopia out for 4 months. It smelled like wine after this time. I didn’t drink it, but could I?

Well, as I understand it wine is made by adding yeast and, sometimes, sugar to fruit juice (or whatever) and then letting it stand until fermentation is complete. I live in a neighborhood with lots of Portuguese immigrants and they often make wine from backyard grapes. It’s just fermented in big jars in the garage or backyard.

There are commonly yeast spores floating around kitchens, so, you may have had something like wine there, although it wouldn’t have been very good, I suspect. If it wasn’t sporting any green fuzz it probably wouldn’t have hurt you. You’re welcome to the first sip.

Thanks for the reply.
I have a mind to try making some “cheese” now.
