Checkbooks

I have a basic checkbook, nothing fancy about it.

What I’m curious about are the plastic flaps inside of the cover (the top cover), what is its purpose?

I’ll try and draw it an ascii form to give you an idea:

|*********** */|

I thought an ID or a credit card would fit there but they don’t. What exactly is the purpose of flap A?

Also I couldn’t quite get flap B correct it should have a curve at the top, but what is the purpose of flap B?

I’ve seen it all the time, but never realize what they were for until now, does anyone know?

Flap A is to hold the register open to the current page. (you insert the front cover of the register under the whole shebang of the top section). Flap B has confounded me for years.

How long did this take to do?

This thread is better suited for General Questions. I’ll move it for you.

That is one heck of an ASCII art. I too am curious how long it took

In my cheapie vinyl checkbooks Flap B is wide enough to hold a credit card. I always thought it was a space to keep a store’s check cashing card or your account-holder’s card. Remember those?

flap B is if you have duplicate checks.

you stick it before your next check so that when writing out the check, the pressure from the pen does not carry on through to the next duplicate check, which would mess up everything if you use your duplicates to balance your checkbook.

I work late, so I had time to kill…

took me 45 minutes, that was my third try at posting it.

But thats where your register goes to. Unless I’ve got my check and register backwards?

Typically, duplicate checkbooks do not have a register. The duplicate copy is all you need to balance your checkbook. Unless you have an ATM card, or make deposits or withdrawals from your account, or do anything else other than write checks …

SCSimmons, I’ve been getting duplicate checks for years, and they always come with a register. I don’t actually use it for writing down transactions, but keep it in my checkbook for the calendar.

shulmahn, I think you’re confusing flap B with the one underneath the checks, which is the one you use with duplicates. Flap B is on the top cover of the checkbook where the register goes.

My hubby and I have been looking at ours, and we’re thinking the same thing.

Flap B is for holding a check-cashing card or discount card. I actually once received a checkbook from a new bank that SAID so.

In my checkbook, there are handy words written in the plastic: Flap A is the “Register Page Tab” and Flab B is the “Credit/ATM Card Slot.”

Yep. My bad. :smack: This should be a reminder to those of us who post to message boards while not in the upright and locked position to properly orient ourselves before posting.
