Cheer me up: send a cheery message from your country, and or state.

Just remember that above all those gray clouds, there still is blue sky.

From Orygun, where it rains so much in the winter that we must constantly remind ourselves that the sky is still blue somewhere.

Hang in there, Leaffan. I’m sending you hugs.

“Go Leafs!” and a big “Roll Tide!” from Alabama.

Here’s The Alabama Shakes-“Hold On”

Rose Bowl! (Next Year!) Rose Bowl! (Next Year!)

It’s the indefatigable chant of my people. For lo these many, many, many years.

Tell me about your favorite comfort foods. I am a wicked good cook and I would love to prepare an online menu with recipes made just for you.

I’ve been known to send overnight care packages at my own expense. It would be no trouble at all.

Well, that’s a heck of an offer, but honestly I’m a pretty decent cook myself, and I like just about anything. We, since separating from my wife I have not had a single meal that consisted of meat, potatoes, and a vegetable. That’s pretty much all we ever had here: too boring.

Pasta, seafood, chili, stir fries, rice, and the like are preferable.

As a native New Yorker, I can tell you, you are presently missing out on our fabulous New Jersey corn and the ripe, fresh peaches my girls picked this weekend twenty minutes from my house. My beloved Brooklyn may do zoos, boardwalks and views of Manhattan quite well but the produce around here alone was worth the move.

C’mon out to the porch with us for a glass of tea, a piece of chess pie and a little guitar pickin’ , Shug.

This songalways makes me feel better, for some reason, so I am sending it to you. It transcends geographical and temporal boundaries.

Yep. It’s a classic. Thanks!

Lady Luck is fickle, but if you treat her right she’ll always come back home.

Greetings from The Southernmost point in the continental United States. Granted I am 30 miles above the southernmost point at home but right there for work.

Have a Great Navy Day!

I will if I ever get to sleep. Ughh. I have to be up in less than four hours, and I cannot bloody sleep!

Buck up, pard. At least we ain’t in Utah!

Cheer up! It’s not raining today in Oregon. But don’t move here on that basis–it will be rainingagain soon.

“Virginia is for lovers.”

-Official State tourism slogan for like forever, and the butt of jokes for like forever too.

Virginia is for lovers, West Virginia is for

cousins

Virginia may be for lovers, but in Pennsylvania they have

“I have, as it were, my own sun and moon and stars, and a little world all to myself.”
― Henry David Thoreau, Walden

(Walden’s just a few miles away, and it really is pretty cool. I fantasize about moving in myself, though with, um, electricity and hot water.)

Greetings and happy thoughts from metro west Boston!

Go n-éirí an bóthar leat.
Go raibh an chóir ghaoithe i gcónaí leat.
Go dtaitní an ghrian go bog bláth ar do chlár éadain,
go gcuire an bháisteach go bog mín ar do ghoirt.
Agus go gcasfar le chéile sinn arís,
go gcoinní Dia i mbosa a láimhe thú.

May your journey succeed,
May the wind be in your favour,
May the sun shine gently on you,
May it rain softly on your land,
And until we meet again,
May God hold you safe in his arms.

Ay up.

(They aren’t very verbose here in Yorkshire).

Hello from Alberta, Canada! Hope that you can come out to see us sometime!

No no, I’ll be ashamed if dopers compare “Hoy puede ser un gran dia” with that forgettable thing.

Ah ok, borrow it if you want, I’m borrowing Sabina and Serrat for myself frecuently, can’t deny you a bit of Torres.
