Cheers vs taxi vs Seinfeld vs Frasier

I’ll choose Seinfeld And Cheers

No contest - Seinfeld.

ETA: Also, TriPolar needs to make up his goddamn mind!

In order: Frasier, Taxi, Cheers

It’s like comparing the various Star Trek shows - all of them had moments of brilliance and moments of stupidity - though each of these four comedies had a far higher brilliance-to-stupidity ratio than any of the Treks.

Had I to rank them… Frasier - Seinfeld - Taxi - Cheers, though reluctantly. If I was building a library of TV shows, all four would be readily included.

So does TheInimitableMaven.

walks off into the sunset whistling “The Hamster Dance”

Cheers by American Pharoah lengths… Brilliant show. Seinfeld 2nd

Robot Arm is clearly a sensible, erudite voter.

In order: Taxi, Cheers. If a taxi ran over Frazier and Seinfeld, I’d express cheers.

I think Frasier is the finest comedy of manners that man has yet devised.

In order:

*Frasier, Seinfeld, Taxi, Cheers.

Never saw Taxi. Maybe I should now…

Cheers is fun but the humor is pretty limited. “You’re stupid” Ha ha. It is in my top ten sitcoms, but that says more about how I tend to dislike sitcoms.

Frasier I would share Baron Greenback’s opinion on. It about as good an example of its type as you could hope for.

Seinfeld is at the very top though. They manage to hit every type of humor and some of the jokes are fairly clever and subtle. Most importantly, Seinfeld never falls into the trap of becoming of a sentimental soap opera, and it never resorts to the stupid unrequited love plot that plagues virtually the entire sitcom genre. In anyone else’s hands, Jerry and Elaine would have gotten back together again, had kids and moved upstate next door to George and Susan.

This is so easy: Cheers, Seinfeld, Frasier, Taxi.

I voted for Taxi but with a caveat - while I have better memories of all the other three shows, they all lasted a few years too long. By the end of Seinfeld, all the characters had grown shrill and irritating. Frasier and Cheers each became cartoonish and broad in their final few seasons and featured storylines they really shouldn’t have (Sam and Rebecca trying to have a kid together, Roz being jealous of Frasier’s new girlfriend and trying to break them up.) Taxi probably might’ve gone the same route eventually, but the networks (it jumped networks didn’t it?) pulled the plug on it too early.

Agreed.

Frasier
Cheers
Taxi
Seinfeld
**Frasier **has made me laugh like a helpless simpleton on several occasions.

**Cheers **took a nosedive when Rebecca climbed aboard.

**Taxi **is underrated and often edgy.

**Seinfeld **was fun but has aged very badly.
mmm

Briefly, but a lot of people think the ensuing years turned out much better, mainly because Diane was gone.

For me **Taxi **was by far the best and the funniest. Rev Jim & Louie are 2 of the absolute greatest characters in sitcoms. What does a yellow light mean? is the funniest moment in TV history.

The other 3 shows are not in my top 10 sitcoms. So this is really not close at all for me.

I would have shows like The Dick Van Dyke Show on this list. Also MASH, All in the Family, WKRP, Get Smart, Community, Mary Tyler Moore Show, Barney Miller and even Scrubs though I know that choice won’t be too popular. That is probably my top 10 in fact. I think I got them all. No wait, Simpsons and Futurama probably edge some others out. Damn.

Push All in the Family to best show but not the funniest show.

Honorable mentions to I love Lucy & The Burns & Allen Show. Also Fawlty Towers and Coupling from England.

Taxi Frasier Cheers Seinfeld, in that order.

What are NBC sitcoms for 300, Alex?

I would rate them

Seinfeld
(big step)
Taxi
Cheers
Frasier

The unfortunate thing about Taxi is there is a great deal of laughing during serious moments. If only that could be removed.

Cheers and Frasier I didn’t stick with until the end.

In order, Cheers, Frasier, Taxi and Seinfeld.
