Today in Chemistry class we built a chemical Christmas tree. We taped a long plastic tube to a sink fixture so that it stood vertically. We clamped a bunch of ring stand rods onto it to serve as branches. Then we mixed up several molar solutions and put them in test tubes. We hung the brightly colored tubes all over the tree with test tube clamps. We also hung two rubber gloves on the lowest branch and filled each finger with a different solution. Most of the chemicals we used were toxic and carried heavy health warnings on their labels. It’s truly the most wonderful time of the year.
