I rented the Chicago DVD from Netflix and watched it over at my Dad’s last night. He has one of those widescreen TVs that if it were at my house, would cut my living room size in half. Anyway, the DVD is supposed to be anamorphic (as Netflix says and other sites back up) but it did not show up that way. The TV has three modes: 4x3 (for standard playback), 16x9 (for anamorphic playback), and Zoom. Zoom is used for widescreen non-anamorphic videos to expand the film to fill the screen (basically, it removes the black bars). We had to use the Zoom mode, since 16x9 stretched the picture out to an ugly extent.
All the reviews I’ve read state that the film is in anamorphic mode when the reviewers watched it. So, am I crazy or is the Chicago widescreen DVD non-anamorphic?
