Chicago Mayoral Election 2015

It came up when Ken Griffin was mentioned as an Emanuel contributor. Griffin rarely gives to Democrats, but Emanuel and Chris Dodd were rare exceptions.
Chuy has mentioned ‘luxury’ taxes. Of course, he’s not specific as to what those luxuries might be.

Karen Lewis and the Chicago Teachers Union have gone stark raving mad.

I’m sure these type of negotiations are similar to professional athletes; start off asking for the moon and eventually move toward something resembling sanity.

I’m really glad Rahm is going to win this election. I want good schools but I’ll be damned if my taxes are going to a ‘restorative justice counselor.’

Under that theory? Potentially win? Sure, there is potential but it is very, very unlikely.

No but they would leave Chicago. That’s not a good thing for the city unless you somehow think that it is?

Here’s an interview with Chuy. He seems to support a financial transaction tax at the national level. That’s one reason I’d never vote for him.
He’s also idiotic for refusing to rule out bankruptcy.

Why?

Why is it a bad idea at the national level?

Chicago Tribune poll finds Emanuel ahead, 58-30.

Reminds me of the classic Bloom County newspaper headline, “Bedfellow Wins Unfortunately.”

Rahm certainly exemplifies that great principle of our American political system, succinctly stated by Milo Bloom.

Rahm’s hammering Garcia in debates and on ads about Garcia running a deficit with his non profit. The problem with this is that Rahm is killing Chicago and CPS’s credit rating with his shifting of cash and it’s all, once again, just to make more money for his friends.

How much money does Rahm need though? I mean, he is already very rich so why go through all the hassle of being Mayor just to make more money?

What is more likely is that Rahm has broader ambitions beyond the Mayoralty so it is in his interest for the city to do better for him to realise those ambitions.

Senator Dick Durbin is 70. That’s Rahm’s likely next step. He could also target Kirk, but I doubt Kirk will win in 2016.

I’m not thinking Rahm will take on Rauner in 2018, but stranger things have happened.

Rahm’s the kind of guy, I think, once he’s got a fortune under his belt, he’s gonna go for power. Getting an even bigger fortune just doesn’t hold the same appeal.

Is that strictly necessary? Reagan never did any good for California.

I honestly don’t think Rahm would consider Senator or Governor a step up compared to Mayor. The Mayor of Chicago has power to get things done his way that neither of those have. The only thing that a governorship brings is a path to a Presidential run and I do not think that Rahm is that delusional.

If he’s already rich and also has all the money he needs for the election, why is he still getting huge contributions to his campaign fund? Because he wants more.
And more on Chuy’s deficits:

Rahm’s rich Republican investor:

Rahm can’t tell CTA workers to shut up:

Rahm is blocking emails counter to Illinois open records laws:

That was always the joke about Daley running for governor – why would he want the demotion? Plus, frankly, I think some urbanite running big city Chicago is a lot less enthusiastic about what’s going on downstate in Effingham.

Bernie Sanders endorses Garcia. FWIW.

Another reason not to vote for Garcia.
