Chicago Mayoral Election 2015

CBS just called it for Rahm. Looks like a 12-14 point victory, pretty similar to Rahm’s margin of victory in the February election.

That fucking sucks. Rahm should be in prison. He’s going to bleed this city dry and then laugh it up with his rich 1% friends.

Well, now that mere formality of an election is done and Rahm has won, we can proceed with the regularly … scheduled … bullshit…

Bedfellow Wins Unfortunately.

Pigshit. It’s Chicago, hog butcher for the world.

Rather a Pyrrhic victory . . .

Not at all. Rahm soundly defeated Chuy in both February and April. Rahm lead in every poll.

I don’t particularly like the 50% rule required to win in February but I can’t think of a better alternative.

Again, shades of the 2012 election and Romney supporters telling me that Obama “barely” won and making up their own definitions of what a win was. “Well, he won fewer states than in 2008 so for an incumbent president that’s just pathetic!” Now I get to learn how Emanuel’s “life was on the line” and he “squeaked out a victory” with a 12 point win.

Rahm had a metric shitload of money, the endorsement of the President of the United States, and a ton of wealthy backers. And despite leading by nearly 30 points in the most recent poll mentioned in this thread, he won by only 12% over a guy who was drafted into being a candidate when Karen Lewis dropped out due to a brain tumor, and was clearly a less than ideal campaigner.

I was listening to NPR yesterday morning, and one Chicagoan said he really liked Chuy, but was going to vote for Rahm because Rahm was better suited to handle Chicago’s budget woes.

I don’t know how representative his attitude was, but Chicago, you’ve stuck with the guy who presided over five downgrades in the city’s bond rating. Now Rahm has a real chance to take the city into junk-bond territory. Is that cool or what? Yep, he can take care of your budget, alright! Charley Hustle, you bet!

The most recent poll I saw in this thread had Emanuel ahead by 18 points with a large “undecided”. The same poll (PDF) put it at Emanuel 56.6%, Garcia 43.3% when “undecideds” were eliminated.

Sounds pretty much exactly where it landed.

Instant-runoff voting or approval voting.

So what’s the alternative? Chuy literally had no plan. What’s yours?
