Chicago Polar Bear Club

Being a fan of Google I thought I would start my search there. Oddly enough I found little information.

I know that a lot of people choose to do this and was wondering if anyone wanted to share their experiences and informtion regarding the 2006 jump. I know there may be several but I remember there being one that always occured on New Years Day. If anyone has any information on locations or groups doing it then into Lake Michigan let me know. I’m up near the Waukegan/Zion area and would prefer to go there but I’m not against a little driving.

Thanks in advance!

Since you’re looking for more than a very specific answer to a very specific question, I"ve moved this to MPSIMS.

I have no such experiences for which I’m thankful, but it reminds me of an episode of Cheers.

For those who haven’t seen Cheers it was set in a bar in Boston, MA and Paul was a sort of semi outsider as far as “the gang” was concerned.

On a frigid New Years the boys, Sam, Woody, Frazier, Norm and Cliff, were sitting around wondering what to do. Paul spoke up and said, “Every New Years day when I was growing up my friends and I used to go down to the beach and jump in.”

The gang, “Hey that sounds like something different. Sort of that those guys in Chicago.”

So they all troop out enthusiastically to go down to the beach and jump in.

Bar waitress Carla, “Where did you grow up, Paul?”

Paul, “Honolulu.”

Ok. Since you are obviously a loon, I found it for you.

January 1st, 10-11 am. Cost you $10 to freeze your nads off.(That’s pre-registration) Day of the event it costs $15. Call 847 360 4764 in Waukegan. So they won’t have to ship your body back home from Chicago.

You’re welcome.

Well I guess I didn’t think to google Waukegan and Polar Bear Plunge. I just kind of assumed there would be more information on Chicago area events somewhere. Anyway, thanks for the info samclem! Now I just need to convince some of my friends to be loony with me.
