Apparently it’s not Old Town anymore. So where can one go for epic head shops, quirky art galleries, etc.?
I don’t know about “hippie,” but Logan Square and Pilsen are where you’ll find the artsy, younger, hip people.
I guess you missed this post in the other thread but there are a number of head shops on Clark St. north of the intersection with Belmont Ave. There is a Red Line stop there.
As for quirky art galleries try Wicker Park and Bucktown as well as the neighborhoods Trom suggests above.
For artsy types and hipsters, don’t forget Ukrainian Village (though you can probably fold that into a general “West Town” category with Bucktown and Wicker Park, although these are all pretty gentrified neighborhoods, with Ukrainian Village being the least gentrified of the three) and Uptown. Bridgeport has become surprisingly hipsterific, too. I would say it’s well on its way to becoming the next Pilsen, or an extension of Pilsen. I do not recognize that neighborhood from my childhood.Even Humboldt Park is on the up swing as artist types get priced out of neighborhoods. As for “hippies,” I don’t know.
Where do the disaffected, poor, dirty, young bohemian types hang out these days - I need to reconnect with my people
