Unfortunately you guys are looking at UI Homecoming Weekend, and I have tenative plans to be in Champaign that weekend. Granted, these things are always tenative with my dipshit friends, but I can’t really commit 100% to this until I know if there’ll be any big events I’m missing. A big year for the Illini would really have me itching to go to the game too. Damn it, there’s always something.
A few comments, as much fun as it is to hit on high school girls, I’d just like to support my fellow drunks in saying it will be more trouble than its worth for anyone to bring their children.
As for what to do? Great America is too active, and not suitable for a big group. The pizza joint idea isn’t terrible, but it might be a bit tame for this group, and on a friday/saturday night we could be forced to split up. That isn’t good. Bars are always a good idea, the problem is to find one that isn’t too packed on a Saturday night. Everyone who mentioned Sheffield’s and Barleycorn, those are major hot spots where we’d have no chance of not getting crowded out, and over run.
tiggeril, I’m sure everyone would love to have you there and if you can make it work, wonderful. The only problem is that Chicago isn’t the most accomodating place for minors and drunks to associate. I’d be happy to consider a place that didn’t card, but I personally have no idea what that might be. Suggestions anyone?
If this sounds like its going to be a significant group are we willing to consider chipping in to get a back room at a bar reserved? I’m not sure what places will do this without requiring us to buy several kegs or a open bar. That is probably alot more than we’d want.

I had planned to tease rubes about it in the ChiDope thread, but I can’t remember if I did, so I threw it in here, just to be safe. Obviously, he was so crushed that you weren’t there, he had to be alone. 
I’ll definitely show up but I would have to say John Barleycorn, while a nice enough place is not a good choice . It is way too mobbed on the weekend and not conducive to conversation. I’ll think about alternates but I used to go to Beloit shindigs at Sheffields a lot and it was always fun, especially if you got there early and got the raised area in the back with the couches and tables.

Now there might be a group of old, blue-haired ladies playing bingo, and they can get pretty out-of-control, but we can always just join in with their madcap fun.

If its early enough, and it isn’t a sports bar/football crowd we might be able to secure a corner of a more crowded bar. To pull that off I’m thinking we’d have to shoot for 7 O’clock at a place like Sheffield’s, which has a awesome beer garden. There are alot of less popular places right on Lincoln that might work nicely too, but we’d have to select one with alot of seating. Keep thinking guys.

I could make the mini on the 7th, but I don’t think my fiancee would appreciate my going on the 14th, that’s my wedding day. I’m getting married in Milwaukee, you are all cordially invited to the reception.

Can we change the date back to the weekend of the 7th? I just found out my cousin’s wedding is the 14th, in the suburbs, and there’s no chance of me getting out of it. I just skimmed the thread again and it didn’t seem that a whole lot of people were dead-set on the 14th, but we have to decide the date for sure before we get anything else done.

Omni and I IM’d this afternoon, trying to come up w/ a good place for the gathering itself. I’m going to hold off on that decision 'til the hotel is found. Oh, and also, most of you didn’t email me when I asked before, so couldja? It’s just a lot easier to do the planning via email than posting every minor question that comes up and waiting for replies. So I need an email address that you check all the time.

Sorry, but the 7th is no good for me. I was going to use my paycheck to pay for the hotel, but I don’t get paid until the 10th. I guess I will have to wait until the next ChiDope gathering. Have fun folks.
I’d say you could stay with me, except, like, yer a CHICK and I’m married and my wife will be gone and I plan to still be alive at Christmas and not because my wife is prolonging the agony for months before finally putting me out of my misery and I’m too lazy to clean up enough for company (or after company) or I’d just have the whole thing here. Plus I’m antisocial.
Since Cranky made the first request for the 14th almost immediately and I was still organizing it at that time and saw that as a good weekend, I’m voting for the 14th.
Actually, Dropzone, my hubby was intending on coming with me, so you would have been safe. Funny thing is, the reason he was going to come along for the trip was that I mentioned the “changing” thing from the Norfolk Doper party and now he thinks that us Dopers are all sex-crazed perverts who have nothing better to do than get together and have orgies in bathtubs full of Jello.
Anyway, I will continue to watch this thread and see what happens.
7th should work for me. HOWEVER, I just found out I may be moving in October. Sooooo…I may have to back out.

I might be able to come on the 7th… I might not. I need to check with a bed and breakfast I made reservations at a few months ago and find out what’s up and plan around that. So, hopefullly I’ll be there but it remains to be seen. I also have some field trips for a botany course I’m taking that will be held on Saturdays, but I figure those will be during the day and this will be in the evening time so that hopefully won’t be an issue.
Damn. Even if lack of finances hadn’t gotten in my way, the 7th wouldn’t be any good for me. My cousin is getting married on that day.
