ChiDoper Drunken Debauchery in a Beer Garden - August 25th

I’m just going to wear purple hot pants and a chainmail tank top.

does that work?

As an added incentive for choosing a bier garten on the north side, if we go to someplace like Resi’s or in Lincoln Square, the party could conceivably spill over into Jarbaby’s Apartment/Pleasure Dungeon.

jarbaby

Holy fright! I’ve been sig’d!

:swoons with pleasure:

Out of everything in that F.O.T.H. thread, your stinging description of myself was the most cutting. I felt it deserved signifornication.

jarbaby

OK, keep your fingers crossed. I am stopping by my uncle’s after work and borrowing his digital camera. If all goes well, I will take a few pics at Resi’s and post them online. I believe there are already pics at the Chief O’neills site.

I’m still working on the hotel info.

And if some handsome, shirtless German Welders enjoying a smoke and a beer happen to get in the pictures, that’s not a problem either.

jarbaby

Well, I’m Dutch-Italian, but I’ll see about those pictures…

You might want to consider asking for the following day off instead if this ChiDope is like any of the others:D

Damn straight. We really should use closing time as an important criterion for choosing the location - if it’s not open til at least 3am, it should be off the list.

Well, I believe the mighty Ms. jar mentioned her very own Dungeon of Love, or some such. Not to invite ourselves over, of course.

However, I agree about a late closing time. I’m feelin’ the need for an all-nighter. Anyone with me?

Only if we can watch Price Is Right reruns

Seriously, my husband is performing Shakespeare in Oakbrook so he won’t be getting home until late. I can’t have a wild, debauched sort of chidope at my house, but I’m just saying if a few people are still going strong, we can grab some beer and hang out there…although being at a bar is always more fun, as you get more funny looks.

jarbaby

Oh, you liked that one, did ya? I figured.

No, I completely understand. I, myself, would love to host a big DopeFest at my house, too. However, I know the debauchery would be much more fun without the insurmountable limiting factors that we would have to contend with at my place.

Onward and upward. I say we throw some dancing into the mix.

According to some on-line info I found, Chief’s is open til 2:30 and Resi’s til 2:00. After that, everybody to jarbaby’s place.

And after the dancing, the ora…oh, uh, nevermind.

OK, bad news and good news.

The bad: I can’t get the digital camera so you will have to trust me when I say they are both nice places.
I was pondering the lack of hotel facilities near either place when I though of an alternative which I will go look at also tonite and report on.

The good: There is a really cool place up on the N side called the Fireside Inn ( on Ravenswood just S of Peterson) …good food, outdoor patio, etc. There is also a cheap ass motel: “Heart O’ Chicago” not three blocks from there! There is also a 24 hour White Castle ( is that redundant?) another two blocks away.

It is also easily accesible by the Clark St. bus or the Western Ave. bus (a little more of a hike) All in all, it is pretty centrally located to the N side should we decide to venture elsewhere. I will go get maps and prices and such tonite.

MikeG, Fireside sounds like a really good idea. The kitchen is apparently open until 3am, and the bar is open until 5am.

And think, as far as the ora… umm… well… see my sig.

The Fireside does rule. I’ve spent many a fun evening there. Some of them I even remember bits and pieces of.

Of course, pending further notice, I MAY be out of the country at that time, so what does it matter what I think?

OK, I just got back from surveying Fireside, Resi’s BierStube, and Chief O’Neills.

Chief O’Neills was a nice enough beer garden but a little corporate and sterile for a dopefest.

Fireside while almost ideal as a gathering place has one flaw. The owners know this and charge accordingly. The manager I talked to told me to call him the first week of August to discuss reservation and menu/drinking prices. He warmed up considerably when Ilet him know his head bouncer used to work with me, but one of the waitresses mentioned off handedly that the prices for the beer garden were exorbitant…before we were interrupted, figures of $100) plus were overheard…

Plus the Heart O’ CHicago motel was widely criticised as being a haven for prostitutes and drug deals…I did not know that. Now that may be a plus for some, but Iwould avoid it. More lodging info to follow (sorry to keep putting it off, but Im really busy with family and kids atm)

Now for Resi’s. This is the German place recommended by jarbabyj and it is the clear winner in my opinion. It is a smallish family owned place with a cozy little beergarden out back that doesn’t take reservations or charge you to enter!
The food looks really good, the beer selection is great and the waitresses are quite nice. All in all I love the place and will be going back on a regular basis between now and the Dopefest in order to build up some “local” credibility

The things I do for you all…<sigh>

That is all for now…Discuss amongst yourselves…but it looks like the Holiday Inns/HoJo’s/Embassy Suites downtown and just W and N and the like are the way to go for lodging

the exact quote from Fireside was “…the last time they quoted the back for 20+ ppl, it was thousands…”

Fuck that.

Mike G, I know you are already doing so much, but could you maybe also inquire about group rates at the hotels in the area? It seems that there is going to be quite a few people coming in from out of town and it would be nice if we could all be at the same hotel.

I admire a guy who can drink at so many places with his only purpose being to critique them for a DopeFest.

In my younger, rambuncious years, I would take this as a direct challenge to yank their corporate britches down and give a tutorial on fun via DopeFestivities 101, but I yield to the natives on this issue.
