In an effort to get this together, I would be happy to handle to hotel stuff. However; About how many of us drunken sods, how many people per room and were abouts?
I’m thinking the Days Inn on Diversy in Lincoln Park. Not the fanciest of digs, but servicable and more importantly, very close to some cool bars.
For those of you interested, here is some info I found about Resi’s.
Oops! That link doesn’t work right. I’ll just paraphrase what it says on the site.
*For German authenticity and warmth, it’s tough to beat Resi’s. Since 1972, the tavern has been run by owners Herbert and Ingeborg Stober, originally from Karlsruhe, Germany. Old immigrants and young urbanites alike frequent the restaurant-bar for its sausage-heavy menu and its wide selection of mostly imported beer. There are 13 German brews on tap and another 130 foreign beers in the bottle. Weiss beer lovers have a selection of three taps and 24 bottles all their own. In the summer, Resi’s has one of the best, and certainly one of the most well-hidden, beer gardens in the city – two large maple trees tower over a flower box-trimmed patio.

If hubby doesn’t come (pretty sure he won’t-will know by 11:00 EST today; I gave him a deadline
), I’m willing to share a room with whomever. I say we get a couple rooms with a 2 double beds and just flop, but then again, I’m not especially modest/shy either so I’ll leave that to y’alls discretion…
:panting with anticipation for Chi-Dope:
Hey, I have a copy of The Princess Bride and (if I can fix where it broke in the reel - can you say “bootleg”?) The Holy Grail. Should I bring with, just in a case? Just a thought.
At last…you’ve all fallen into my clutches. Resi’s it is…but be prepared for much swooning if I hear actual Germans speaking actual German.
I think I’ll change my outfit too. Nix the chainmail tank top. I’m wearing braided pigtails and lederhosen.
just the lederhosen
nothing else.
I’m also going to type the name INFRAGGABLE KRUNK just in case he searches his own name. He always wants to know about chidopes…and I think he should be there!
BunnyGirl…you can always share a bed with me
grwwowwowwl.
der jarbaby
Well, if jarbaby is wearing 'em, I’m gonna wear 'em. I’ve got a pair given to my father from my grandfather, and he said he used to wear them in his younger days, so these things are old. Not sure if they are authentice German or Dutch, though…you wanna check for a tag when I get there?
Is that what we’re calling it these days?
Check your tag? Honey, I’ve been waiting for that kind of proposition all my life!
Hey, can I dress up as Heidi? I’m sure the braids and short little skirt would look cute as a bug on me.
And, jar? Oh, you kid, you!
Heidi is Swiss, isn’t she. Well, poop.
How 'bout the St. Pauli girl? I’ll have to buy a WonderBra or something, but at least I’ll have the right country…right?

Oh! And this just in!!!
Bunny will be going stag. Hubby is too buys. Town rejoices. Shadow is guaranteed a roommate and a ride!
falling into your clutches? Hell, I’ve been throwing myself into your clutches for months! [sub]to no avail, of course grumble grumble married grumble…grrrrr[/sub]
Thanks for the help, MissCreant!
I suck at hotel planning…I never use them. The Days Inn sounds like a good idea though.
I have a queen sized sofabed so I can accomodate a few slacker dopers who don’t want to pay for lodging or don’t mind shacking up with strangers.
So with Resi’s set as the centerpiece of our DopeFest, thoughts turn to ancillary activities. Resi’s does not open until 3 or so on Saturday so we have plenty of options for those coming in on Fri evening Sat. morning.
Let me be the first to suggest dim sum on Sat. morning at Phoenix on Archer as a way of acclimating ourselves to the task ahead. We had a great time there before Spiffled and I am overdue for another excursion there.
Harumph.
That’ll teach me to try and correct a post mid-submit.
Anyway, that should read “Hubby is too busy”. Sheesh. In my excitement, I got my fingers all tangled.
I’m all for dim sum. Don’t know what time Shadow will able to leave etc. but I’m interested.
Now, about those directions!

jarbaby, just out of curiosity: what’s the story with your love of all things German? I ask because my maternal side is as German as they come (mom was a Schmidt, her mom was a Schultz), and it’s never seemed to me to be an interesting country/culture, etc. Aside from our annual Polka Day (don’t ask), and my grandma occasionally slipping a German word into conversation, I would never think twice about it. Dad always said the language sounded like they’re talking with shit in their mouths.
Back on topic: I’ve stayed at that Days Inn a few times. Just make sure to get a double room - poor Flyp reserved a single and there was barely enough room to move around.
here’s one big, sexy part of the reason
Another is that I’m sort of a mutt (German, Irish, English, Dutch) and I was always jealous of my husband who is just screamingly Irish and really identifies with the culture. I decided to research my family’s geneology a little more and became very interested in Germany and Germans.
I think it’s a fascinating culture. The history of Germany has been overshadowed by a decidedly bad decade, and I love the food, the composers, the writers… They’ve made great strides in popular music (which they were bad at for a while) and I think German christmas decorations are the best.
And your dad is nutso (no offense). In my opinion, a man speaking German is…hands down, the sexiest thing I could ever hope to listen to.
jarbaby
Bad news kiddies. There’s a convention in town that weekend. All the reasonable hotels that I’ve called are booked.
Should we shoot for a suburban location? Either for the fest or just hotel.
Can anyone else picture Bunny just sitting there, looking at both of her double posts, shaking her head and saying “You know what, that’s enough of that…I’m going to lunch!”
[sub]And JarBaby, you can call it’s called “tag” because we…uh, well, maybe I’ll just show you.[/sub]

Can anyone else picture tsjust sitting there, looking at his screwy coding and, Khan-like, shouting “Gaudere!!!”
Ah think, that’s exactly what happened! I resisted (I’m getting better at it
) the temptation of trying to explain what happened.
Anyway, Miss, hold it in the slums and I’ll still come. Just tell me where and when. Let’s do it somewhere where we can take the train or something cause I honestly don’t want to have to volunteer to be the DD.
Oh no.
Don’t move it to the suburbs. Not the dope itself. We have to have it in the city!
Now a suburban hotel, that’s fine. but have you called the little mini chicago hotels? Like City Suites on Belmont? or the Days Inn on Halsted? They’re too small to host conventions or even blocks of rooms, so I would imagine some would still be available.
