Those were the words of a little girl, who sat in front of a coffee table drawing pictures of her family instead of sitting in a kindergarten classroom at Mt. Erie Christian Academy with her peers.*
A woman… described herself as the director of Mt. Erie [the school], told Team 10 the school has a non-discrimination policy. …“The Bible says homosexuality is a sin. We don’t condone any sinful lifestyles.”*
Non-descrimination my ass. I honestly thought we were above this shit already. But allowing this to happen to a little child who, by all accounts, is innocent of any wrongdoing is insane. Big {{{hug}}} to the child.
I think the Bible says something about those without sins throwing the first stone too.
“When asked whether it was discrimination to bar the 5-year old from attending kindergarten because her parents are lesbians, Kailyn responded: “The Bible says homosexuality is a sin. We don’t condone any sinful lifestyles.””
She works in a school. They probably have dictionaries. She should look up “discrimination” and refresh her memory on what it is.
It’s a private school. They are allowed to refuse entry to any child they want to for any reason they want to. I fully support this.
But they better not be asking for one goddamn dime of public money going to their school for any reason. I fully oppose private schools receiving any local, state, or federal funding, for precisely this reason.
I wonder if the school expels students whose parents engage in adulterous affairs. And what’s their stand on divorce? Are they OK with divorced parents? What about unmarried ones?
A private school can do what it wants when it is completely privately funded. I think the only thing that could change Admin’s minds would be if other parents pulled their kids and tuition. That’s it.
It is sad (yet again) that a school or anyone else is discriminating on the basis of sexual orientation, though as we have seen, times are changing.
If a wholly private institution it’s their right to accept or refuse members at will.
Did this come as a surprise to her parents? At a glance it didn’t seem to be a surprise to me. I fervently hope the child is not being used by her parents for the promotion of a social statement* (not that I am claiming she is! I am hoping that concern is completely without merit.)*
Some Christians are more open-minded and accepting than others. No, really, it’s true.
I’m willing to bet that most of the parents would be fine with the child of a same-sex couple, and that this is some administrator with a wild hair up her ass.
Actually, a church sponsored school should be one that provides a loving, caring environment for all who attend, not just the kids with “straight” parents. What the fuck are they afraid of? I would like to see them wrestle Matthew 25:40.
"The King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.’
If you’re going to be a Christian, don’t be a damn hypocritical one.
Sorry to quote a scripture, but I guaranFUCKINGtee you that a christian school has at least heard of Jesus and his scriptures. They talk the talk, but they sure don’t walk the walk.
I have to agree. As a private school that, according to the linked article, does not accept public funds there is no expectation they have to let the daughter of these two women attend. It sucks but that’s the way it is. I am seriously puzzled why they enrolled their daughter in such a school to start with.
Unfortunately, they chose poorly then. The school seems pretty upfront about their anti-gay beliefs and sound fairly fundamentalist in doctrine. According to the article linked the school handbook states
It sucks but under the Constitution it appears to be perfectly legal.
Pretty conservative, but old-school conservative: moderate “property values” conservative and “military family” conservative. The good kind, without so much hatred or bigotry or religious intolerance.
But there’s that ugly core of religious bigotry, which you’ll find in any large city (and most small towns…)
San Diego used to be in California, didn’t it? Is it still?
State anti-discrimination laws in California include sexual orientation as one of the grounds on which discrimination is not allowed, I’m pretty sure. Would this apply at a Christian-run private school?
