Looks interesting. Is it something you’d recommend?

Like an idiot, I stopped reading children’s books when I wasn’t a child anymore, and I sure missed out on some good stuff. I’m trying to catch up.

Ooooh! OOOOHH!

Try Lois Lowry! THE GIVER in particular, also GATHERING BLUE. My 10-year-old daughter turned me on to her. Great stuff…THE GIVER (A Newberry Award winner) is almost the equal of A WRINKLE IN TIME.

Uke - are you channeling Horschach?

Okay. Will do. Right now, in fact. Thanks for the tip.

I highly recommend reading both of the books in this series. I remmeber them as being quite dark in some places and very involving. Big thumbs up. The thing I find with childrens books is that they aim for the imagination moreso than the intelligence of the reader. I maybe wrong but childrens authors have a better knack of helping you create the story in your mind  Plus I’m still a big kid…

I read those BB books - they were good, but quite heavy-going for a child. I’d like to read them now as I think I’d get more out of them.

I was stunned when I read Wind in the Willows as an adult - I never noticed the language before. Arguably one of the most perfect examples of beautifully used English in existence.

But my childhood fave was Enid Blyton.
