I like CE, I love CE. But I think CE would better a better recieved movie than Rama. In the way that Armageddon is better than 2001: A Space Odyssey. The “better” movie is not the one that people go see.
At least with CE there’s a payoff. Rama is mostly exploration and ends with as many questions as it begins with. (and childish though I may be, I don’t acknowledge anything after Rama II in that series :mad:)

Urk. So some shlub will be the contact, not the SG. I suppose the UN had a lot more clout back when it was written. And I hope they don’t do a whole episode on the kidnapping.

I think people could get into Rama much more easily, since there is more action, a more easily understood plot line, and a more traditional set of characters. But 2001 is a far better book. However, in a sense its payoff was done in 2001, and done well.
I understand that some guy named Lee “Pel Toro” Gentry forged Clarke’s name and scammed some publishers into putting out some dreck. I’ve still got a bad taste in my mouth from it.
