children and blood pressure

Can someone direct me to a source that I can use, or can someone tell me, a range of normal blood pressures for children of age 13? Is the range dependent on weight? Where can I get this info? Thank you.

I have not looked at this document, but judging by its source (the NIH), I’m confident that it can be trusted.

The easiest way is to just call any hospital…ask for a nurse…or a local urgent care. I have had sooo many questions answered that way.

Karlgauss - thank you very much. It’s just what I needed. How did you know it was there?

CC: Your welcome!

There’s pretty much everything and anything on the Net. Just have to know a few search tricks. I tell my daughter that it’s an infinite encylcopedia (and for free!).

Well, yeah, that’s really what I was asking - what tricks did you use? I searched altavista for blood pressure and children, for example, and didn’t find anything I could use. How’dja do that?

Actually, “search tricks” was something of an exaggeration.

Nothing fancy. Yahoo. Key words blood pressure children (no commas or quotation marks). Ignored the category and site matches but went right to web page matches. Then scanned the URL’s of the results for reputable sites from universities, NIH, etc.

The trick, if any, was to go right to the web page matches.

Not checked out the site, by my $0.02

Significant hypertension in a 13 year old is a systolic BP over 136 and diastolic over 86. These values are increased in severe hypertension to 144 and 92. It is important to use a cuff of the proper diameter in someone of this age.
