Mrs. Gumbercules and I currently sponsor a child from the Phillipines through Children International.
We are starting to have our doubts about this charity though. We recieved our handwritten letter, and it was either faked or written by a child who was pretty well educated. I mean, the letter was more well-written than something some of my high school students could have done.
Does anyone know anything about these charities? Are they on the level or not? I need the Straight Dope here, guys.

C’mon folks, should I stop giving to these people or what?
Yeah, stop giving to these people. They practically bully you into give by those sad, upsetting commercials and there’s no way one of those sick children could’ve written you a thank you letter. I don’t like national charities because it’s just like paying taxes to the IRS, you don’t know where the hell you money is going.
