This man won a nobel prize, yet many foreigners here in China call him an Americna puppet, or worse. We who live in the west take our freedom for granted, yet even the crazy of tea party and OWS would be a death sentence in the PRC, yet all deny this. cowards and immoral all.
This has probably been said, I haven’t read all 4 pages of the thread …
I gotta wonder, given China’s horrendous treatment of girls, if people would have ignored this dying child in the middle of the road if she’d been a boy.
Poor baby She’s with God now and nobody can ever hurt her again. That said … it still fucking sucks and whoever did it needs to be executed.
Eh, I could talk all day. But if you picture the gender roles of the 1950s, and add in some rampant adultery and occasional female infanticide, you wouldn’t be too far off. It’s just not a great place to be a women.
Similar (well, sort of) story in today’s Daily Mail
Headline reads “After the tragedy of Yue Yue, the Chinese trucker who hit a boy… then ran over him again to be sure he’d died ‘because it was cheaper than paying the hospital bills’”, but I would take it with a pinch of salt given the source.
-strange thing is nobody wants to say…that Mencius,“Ming Ze” said “Who would not feel alarm at a baby sleeping on the corner of a well?”
-In other words, Chinese culture has not always been so ruthless, that the common man prefers the idea of killing people to paying fines, or being sued. For most humans the idea of killing someone is distasteful. Why are the chinese getting into it?
It’s rather quite common in Thailand to say if you hit someone, be sure to run them over again if they don’t seem dead the first time. The people say it (semi-)jokingly, but it’s sure said a lot. The idea is the hassle over killing a pedestrian is less than the years or decades of court action. I can well believe the same would be said in China, and there was even a case in the news of a wealthy Chinese man who got the death sentence for doing just that not too long ago.
Damn straight it does. It happened to ME when I was a kid and I lived in a rural area tight community…not an urban area.
Very terse version. I was about 8 years old and was hit by a car. I fell down in the street (was walking at a crosswalk). Guy gets out of the car and looks at me, looks around gets back in car and drives away. I know because I saw him while laying in a fetal position.
For the next few minutes people walked around me, cars drove around me. Finally, I had enough energy to crawl to the sidewalk. I lay there for a few more minutes. Many people and cars, no help. Finally I was able to get up and get home where my mom rushed me to the hospital. They never did find the guy who hit me.
That was over 40 years ago and it STILL pisses me off. Who the FUCK walks over
and around an 8 year old lying in the street?!
Although for the other side of the coin, the couple hundred million people that live in the Eastern seaboard are generally a lot different than those in the smaller interior cities and countryside. Eg, the gender roles are much different with many people in the cities actually preferring daughters. FWIW, I never noticed any major gender disparities with my 3 girls over 10 years while living in Shanghai. Then again, Shanghai is argueably the most modern, liberal, international city in China.
