Chinese people knitting when i want to see the rest of a youtube clip

Recently (latest 2 years?) i have noticed that my favorite youtube clips reagulary get stopped whithin the last 30 minutes (lets say) of the clip, by an asian woman knitting or doing other nice housework. Why does this happen?

Does this only happen here in Norway? Or is this something other people notice? It is quite annoying if you are engaged in some long political youtube clip, when it is inevetibly you are cut short by suddenly some one asian knitting…

Whats up? am i alone?

Are you talking about midroll ads? Does the red playback bar disappear, to be replaced by yellow/grey themed countdown timers?

If it’s not ads, I would be inclined to suspect you may have some sort of malware on your machine (although I have never heard of this specific kind)

Not midroll ads, just at the end of youtube clips (usually long, and usually political)

Could you supply some example links (so we can check it’s just Norway (or just you !))

i assume it wont show up for you

Give it a try.

This happens with a lot of like sports shows. Someone with a channel will upload a 10 minute clip of some ESPN show, then halfway through the run time it switches to them doing a drawing or coloring demonstration. They do it to circumvent copyright and to promote their crappy drawing videos.

Yeah, it’s common when people either are posting someone else’s content or are trying to game the algorithm in some way. Legit videos shouldn’t have that.

I only watch legit videos. Has happened on long Meidas touch videos, and other long videos. Never on Longplays (3 hour long game videos for example)
So i wondered if it had something with politics to do. Often the last 10 minutes are cut off by a woman knitting - looking chinese

I encountered the Asian lady doing piece work at the end of a video I viewed in a SDMB thread sometime in the last month. I can’t recalll which one (probably a clip from cable news) and I have no insight as to the purpose. I’m in the US.

Can you post an example of one that does this?

I know you…

But we can’t answer these questions until we’re all comparing the same video.

And FWIW, someone else posted something vaguely similar a while back. We could all see it (but I don’t remember what it was) since it was part of the actual video.

ETA, here it is. Same thing, knitting videos spliced into ‘normal’ content (Fox News in this case).

I don’t think we ever got an answer, but I remember thinking either the channel was hacked or this was a way to get news through a (national?) censor.

I’ve seen this often. Reminds me of back in the day when you’d re-record over a video and see snippets of the original when the new video wasn’t long enough to fill the tape.

If it’s part of the actual uploaded video, it will show up for us. Please just post an example.

Chances are any examples are taken down as soon as they are reported, like the one posted in this reddit thread

These videos are on monetized YouTube accounts that post news clips they don’t have the full rights to. I believe Fair Use allows them to show a small clip but to convince viewers they have the full length, they pad out the time with Crochet Lady or some other filler.

Maybe that explains it, then. I couldn’t figure out what was the benefit to adding random knitting footage to the end. Most of these accounts that I’ve ever seen get LOTS of comments, too, positive ones - no complaints about the weird footage.
