Chinese stunt artist falls from building while performing stunt, dies

Video might be upsetting:

Wu Yongning was a 26-year old stunt artist (of the sort which Russian climbers/trespassers have made famous of late) and would climb to overhanging ledges, bridges, etc. and deliberately lounge about or stand or walk on the edge of death. He was getting a lot of views, and significant money, on the Internet by doing so.

Of the accident itself - after doing pullups on the ledge, it appears that he was unable to muster enough strength to pull himself back up again, or perhaps his fingertips couldn’t get enough traction for a firm grip to let him get back up on the ledge.

Silly boy.

It looks like the walls were unexpectedly slippery. His feet just could not get any traction.

Great username/title.

Darwin In Action!

Great publicity. Hardly anybody ever heard of this guy until he fell.

Dumbass does dumb thing, dies while doing it. Who gives a shit?

Considering it was a real person who died, many people probably give a shit. Geez.

No. No one gives a shit. He didn’t just die; he gave his life away for nothing but his own aggrandizement.

According to a USA Today article I read, he was doing it for $15k in prize money. In which he intended to ask his girlfriend to marry him after the challenge, using the money to pay for his wedding and also on some sort of care for his ailing mother.

Watching that made me sick to my stomach.

“Giving away life for nothing” and “no one gives a shit” don’t necessarily go together; in fact, Wu Yongning had a huge following on Weibo (a social networking site) and his fans had become concerned when he hadn’t posted an update in a while (speculating, I guess, that he had met his end in one of his stunts).

Eh, I’ll join in with all the black humor jokes, Darwin awards, etc. I chuckled at the three posts before Eyebrows’. I think it’s a healthy way to deal with tragedy.

But saying someone deserves to die or that no one cares is different for me. No one deserves to die because they did something stupid. That’s quite a judgment to make. So yeah, I do give a shit.

He earned that death. He’s a stuntman, defying Death was his game. We all know Death wins in the end, nobody ever wins that one, but he put up a good fight while giving Death every possible advantage.

If I read correctly elsewhere, he had done stunts like this over 300 times previously. What’s amazing isn’t that he got killed; what’s amazing is that he survived this long.

If I gave a shit, I would feel contempt for this guy killing himself for money and attention. So I better not give a shit.

How do you say “here, hold my beer” in Chinese?

Shodan

So… He was going to take the plunge?

在這裡,抱著我的啤酒。

Okay - how do you say “shoot, that ain’t nothing - watch THIS” in Chinese?

Shodan
