Chivas and Jim Beam Buy Ballantine's

Or, to substitute the companies’ names for the brands they own, Pernod Ricard SA and Fortune Brands Inc. have agreed to buy Bristol, England-based Allied Domecq Plc, the world’s second-biggest liquor company, for $14 billion. (Story here).

Pernod will keep most of the Allied Domecq brands, including Ballantine’s, Beefeater, Kahlua, Malibu and Tia Maria. Fortune is buying brands including Sauza, Maker’s Mark, Courvoisier, Canadian Club and Laphroaig. Allied Domecq also has a restaurant business that owns Dunkin’ Donuts, Baskin-Robbins and Togo’s, which Pernod plans to sell.

This is great news! Thanks.

Wow, that’s going to make a distributing nightmare in some areas. Where I live, there are 4 different local distributing companies. They each are able to deliver products from a certain vendor in this area and they can not deliver anything from other vendors without going through a lot of hassle in getting permission to do so.

For example: Company A delivers Jim Beam. Company B delivers Jack Daniels. While both companies can purchase either product directly from the distributer, only Company A can deliver Jim Beam in this area. If for some reason Company B needed to deliver Jim Beam to a location in this area, they would have to jump through lots of hoops and pay lots of money to get the agreements confirmed to make such a delivery.

Mundane and Pointless, but it was on my mind so I thought I would share.
