Choosing a Book Appraiser

I have a very large collection of books, a good percentage of them date in the late 1800’s to the early 1900’s. I REALLY should get them appraised for insurance values.

My problem is, is that I am in Las Vegas, No one I know has ever had books appraised here, so I have no references of “These people were great!”.

How do I choose an appraiser?
What kind of questions should I ask? (Are You licensed/bonded?)
Can I ask for references of past customers?
What is considered a going rate for book appraisals?
How long should it generally take them to appraise one book?

Anybody have experience with having books appraised? Help.

I doubt any of them are worth a fortune, so I am not looking to use them as a retirement fund. (I did find a copy of an 1882 book I have for sale online (in worse condition than mine) for $200.)
