They both believe in magic.

Shortly after the 9/11 attacks, a Doper by the name of Muslim Guy started an outstanding thread where he answered questions about Islam. I’d highly recommend taking a stroll through that thread…the answer is in there, but darned if I can remember how to link to a specific post at this time of the night.

I’ll have a shot - although I am no expert…

Islam identifies Allah as the God described in the Bible and affirms Moses, Abraham and other OT Prophets as “dinkum” prophets who were speaking God’s word to the world. Jesus was another prophet in the succession (so to speak) and Muhammad was the last and the greatest of the Prophets.

Although the Bible is considered to be divinly inspired, the Qur’an (the collection of the writings/sayings of Muhammad) is considered to superceed the Bible, which is seen as a theological, and not merely a chronological, preamble to Islam. Whatever (in the Bible) contradicts the Qur’an is discarded. The justification for this is that the Bible is considered to have been corrupted (in their present form) and many Muslims do not actually read the Bible but gain their knowledge of it directly from the Qur’an. By contrast, the Qur’an is believed to have been preserved with strict integrity in its original form by Muslims down the ages.

There are many similarities (Islamic site) between the teachings of the two faiths, but there are significant points of difference (Christian site) as well. For a more balanced viewpoint try the religious tolerance site. Probably the most important of the diferences involves the person of Jesus. Fundamental to the Christian faith is the notion that Jesus was the Son of God, who lived as a man on earth for a time, died on a cross and rose to life again on the third day. Interestingly, Islam agress with the concept of the Virgin Birth, but denies all of the other points. Jesus was simply a highly respected prophet, but a lesser prophet than Muhammad - the rest are lies or mis-interpretations spread by the followers of Jesus after his death.

Attitudes of Christians towards Isalm vary from seeing them as misguided but honest all the way through to a front for Satanic influence in the world.

Hope that helps…

P.S. I also recommend Muslim Guy’s threads - I was going to try and find them, but didn’t have the energy…

G

I don’t believe in magic.

Or, in Hollywood terms:

Judiasm – God: "This I Command"
Christianity – God 2: Coming of the Savior
Islam – God 3: The Final Prophet
