Wait a minute - how is what Trish did different from what I would do as an atheist?
If I was running a kids club of some discription and some of the kids were christian (as is usually the case) and asked me about God or the bible or something about christianity - I would have to respond that ‘some people believe this but I don’t’.  If they went on to ask ‘why’, things get more complicated. On the one hand I don’t want to tell the kids that I think their parents are wrong, but that is essentially what I’m saying, which a bright kid would quickly work out.
This has in fact happened to me.
Whilst I would be really pissed off, should someone tell my child that his/her parents were wrong, when I think about the shoe being on the other foot, I would do the same thing - maybe with more tact and ‘I think’ qualifiers though.
The key difference between your example and what happened here is your use of the phrase “…and asked me about God or the bible…”
