A woman I know recently had a baby. Her family’s Christmas cards this year are postcards with her baby’s picture on the front; a little boy with a blue and white vaguely-crown-shaped baby hat on his head (I thought it was a mini jester’s hat at first). The words “Glory to our newborn king” are printed on the bottom of the card.
I think it could be offensive. I’m not Christian though, so I’m curious how someone who is might feel about something like this.
I know some fundy born-again types who would probably take mortal offense at it (they’re the type who find offense at every little thing), but I think it’s tacky in a “WTF?” eye-rolling kind of way.
As amarinth said, the poor kid will more than likely be spoiled horribly.
In my old neighborhood there was a family that would go all out on Christmas lights. We’re talking local attraction here. They’d even put a snowman in a sled in their garage. They’d solicit donations for the electricity bill from the visitors.
One year they had a Nativity scene with an empty manger, with an invitation to put a baby in there and photograph it. I’m not a practicing Christian, but I was a bit uncomfortable with that.
I agree with amarinth. Unless the family’s last name is King, I think it’s in poor taste.
My wife’s uncle sent a Christmas card last year of him, his son and his dog, King, all holding presents (the dog had a small box in his mouth). The uncle was dressed as Elvis and the son was dressed as the Burger King. Inside it said “The three kings came bearing gifts.” We were raised Catholic but were not offended. We just thought they were being weirder than usual.
