If you are old enough. This will evoke Christmas any time of year.
I get around that by copying the URLs from Notepad or somewhere rather than directly from YouTube. ![]()
Bill Nighy (although it’s the same pronunciation). Not Bill Nye, the Science Guy.
That’s the only part of Love, Actually that I can tolerate, too.
There are only a very few Christmas songs that I’m not sick of.
The Man with the Bag
Mary’s Boy Child
I like Christmas music too. Right after Thanksgiving I’ll have some stations tuned in on my car radio. I like to sing along to the traditional Christmas carols. In my car, where nobody else can hear my struggling voice.
Merry Christmas, everyone!
Bob Rivers has a lot of great humorous Christmas songs. I think my favorite is Sled Zeppelin, although Toy Sack is a close second.
I previously mentioned “This Christmas” in a BBQ Pit thread, but not because I don’t like it—quite the opposite. Let me state, however, that this should not be confused with a similarly titled song by Wham. That said, it’s good that this song has gotten more attention over the years.
I love this song! I was really happy to hear it being sung at my granddaughter’s 7th grade choir concert.
I just heard Eartha Kitt singing Santa Baby- and this is why it is superior to all others, especially Madonna- is that they are all just greed greed gimme gimme.
But not Kitt- sure she has a list, but it seems clear whoever “Santa Baby” is he is gonna have a really good time.
This is the most season of the year.
According to “music experts of the US” now it’s far too late to play Xmas music…even though it is still, obviously, the Xmas season until the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, according to the Church.
But for people (Americans, I suppose) who belong to a bunch of differing sects, generally…that means no more Xmas music.
It is a great day. I no longer (much) want to put a lit cigarette into some inflatable “Frosty” or “Rudolph” or Burl Ives balloon…not as much, anyway. No jury would convict me!
I am partial to these 2 German/Austrian Christmas songs:
Die Hollerstauden | Still, Still, Still
Die Hollerstauden | Leise rieselt der Schnee
I legitimately love Christmas music and play it nonstop Thanksgiving on. I am tuned to the 24hour Christmas station in my car the whole month and its very disappointing that they don’t really stray from the base 20 popular Christmas songs. They could literally spend a week playing Soul Christmas albums or even odder 50s novelty songs and barely need to repeat a song.
The most off-kilter songs are “I want a Hippopatomus” and “The Man with All the Toys” from the Beach Boys.
Put “The Purple People Eater meets Santa” and “Santa Claus Go Straight To The Ghetto” by James Brown, you cowards!
Wow, uugh! (James Brown sound)
Lake Street Dive does a good version
Lake Street Dive - I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas (Yule Log Audio)
-PMJ also does it.
My hypothesis is that for a large majority of those that don’t like Christmas music, it’s the repetition / cliché that turns them off. Think of all those critics who say “it was a rehash of the original, so I give it a thumbs down” with regards to a sequel, even if they liked, or especially if they liked, the original. Those are probably the same people who don’t like Christmas music due to its repetition.
Me? I like Christmas music, and the repetition is part of what I like about it. Listening to the classics every year, or multiple times a year, is like a visit from an old friend who you know really well and who you can count on not changing. There’s nothing wrong with that.
“My Favorite Things" is not a Christmas song - why do we always hear it at this time of year?
