Christopher Guest is at it again!

Did you love This is Spinal Tap? Did you laugh out loud at Waiting for Guffman? Did you soil yourself while watching Best in Show? Coming soon to a theater near you, a movie about folk music, titled A Mighty Wind, with many of the usual suspects. I can’t wait!

Awesome! I’m sure it will be as brilliant as ever. Thanks for the heads-up.

I heard him talk about this on the second to last episode of Dennis Miller Live last summer, and I’ve been waiting with bated breath ever since. It should be awesome.

He and Albert Brooks should be required by law to make two movies a year!

I have a feeling that they might run out of material and start declining if they were to make 2 movies a year. If Baron Hadon-Guest had the material to do two movies a year, he’d do it.

I remember seeing “The Folksmen” (folk-music group with Guest, Shearer, and McKean) years ago on SNL. As I recall, they did that bit before they even did Spinal Tap. This has been a long time in coming, and I’m gonna be there when the mighty wind starts a’blowin’.

Well hey, Albert Brooks will be co-starring with Michael Douglas in the comedy remake of The In-Laws! I haven’t seen him in a while… and this Douglas’s role in it is reminiscent of his character from Romancing the Stone. Hrm, actually, it looks like role reversal for Brooks if you look at it from a “Real Life” perspective; his character’s life/family (in the In-Laws) that’s being ruined by an outsider instead. Am I making sense?

Nevertheless, any of you seen A Mighty Wind yet? Damn hilarious… I still need to buy the album.

I enjoyed A Mighty Wind very much, I think it’s likely the best of the ones he’s directed. It wasn’t necessarily as funny - though the really good jokes WERE really, really good - I think they did a remarkably good job of imitating life and making believable characters while still keeping things off-kilter and funny. This one was actually even touching at times. I like his stuff, and I was impressed.

I just saw it tonight and I loved it. Guest is a genious. As usual the characters were spot on. Those album covers were brilliant.

The Folksman = Peter, Paul and Mary + The Kingston Trio.
The New Main Street Singers = The Christy Minstals + The Rooftop Singers.

Mitch and Mickey = ??

Haj

I STILL haven’t heard when this is getting a nationwide release. As far as I know, it’s still just in select cities. Anyone?

I’m pretty sure it’s in wide release at this point.

I read a review which equated Mitch and Mickey with Sonny and Cher. I don’t know that I agree with that, really, especially since the reviewer found all kinds of faults with the comparison.

But I loved the movie.

Friday, May 9th is wide release.

Mitch and Mickey are supposed to represent the Canadian folk duo of Ian and Sylvia.

Whoever said they were supposed to be Sonny and Cher knows squat.
