Chrome just flagged this site as malware for me

IE doesn’t display the warning.

… I don’t know what this says about anything, though. Perhaps IE sucks at malware detection or is better than Chrome at it - who knows?

I get the warning in Firefox, but not in IE.

Just had a problem loading pages (in general, not just the SDMB) and IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS resolved the issue. I wonder if there is or was a DNS hijack involved?

Yup. iPad Safari seems ok. SamsungS4 chrome is blocking too.

I get this warning:

Also I can’t preview my post. I get the warning and when I ignore it I just get a blank page.

IE does not take you to the “stopbadware” hijack site so that’s a good thing.

Me too. Here’s the explanation I got:

Me too, on Firefox 29.0.01. Same message as Oakminster.

I like how the first page says (emphasis mine):

and clicking Advanced leads to (emphasis mine):

So SDMB is a “known malware distributor” which hasn’t actually distributed any malware (some member’s posts notwithstanding).

That description is outdated. See the one a few posts above.

Google crawled the site and got hit by malware (bad ads) so they blacklisted it. On the one hand, I hate that we are constantly exposed to this and forced to use adblockers and anti-malware tools just to surf the Dope, but on the other hand I really don’t like the way all browsers now seek Google’s permission to visit a website. That means even if you use Firefox or Safari, Google is tracking what sites you visit each time you visit any site, even in a non-Google browser.

I too got the malware warning on my Win7 box, using Chrome. I have a Linux VM, so I logged onto it figuring it would most likely be safe from whatever malware might be present. Using Firefiox, I was able to connect to the Dope without issue, with no warning page. Of course, I was not logged in; I was visiting the site as a guest. But as soon as I entered my user name and password and clicked the ‘Log On’ button, I was presented with the warning page from Firefox.

So…no warning when accessing the site as a guest, but a warning upon attempting to log on. I’m not sure exactly what that means, but hopefully someone on the Admin side can make use of the info.
ETA:

And upon closing Firefox and relaunching it, I am now presented with the warning page even when connecting as a guest, without logging in. So…never mind…

Oh my god!!!

You just saved a bundle on car insurance by switching to GEICO?

It’s not related to your machine or your OS, Suburban Plankton. It’s a flag that Google is sending to browsers that subscribe to this Google “badware” feature. Chrome does, of course, and so does Firefox and Safari. So regardless of the safeness of your OS, if you use one of those browsers, they’ll throw up the warnings for you.

I got the same as most others in Firefox.

Personally I’m just blaming (insert the name of your least favorite person or group here) and going on as usual.

Jumping a couple extra hoops is no biggie.

After days of getting bad script warnings when opening the Dope, now Firefox tells me it’s an “attack site” and that little Ed Zotti gremlins will spring out of my monitor to cause skin rashes and uncontrollable itching (alright, the gremlin part hasn’t happened…yet).

Gotta wonder if the perennial attempts by the Chi. Reader to boost income from the site are backfiring yet again.

Just adding that the same issue is happening to me on FF 29.0.1 on Win7

Well, it this gets rid of the Massachusetts congressman ad, I am all for it.

At first I thought the warning absurd and posted so above but reading the page on StopBadWare I’m not so sure. The advice there is to stay away from the board until the owners fix things.

Is that good advice or unnecessarily alarmist?

Is it possible for someone with a vendetta to falsely report a website as malicious? Just curious, since I did notice that somebody got banned this morning.
