Chrome just flagged this site as malware for me

And yeah, chrome claims the SDMB hosts malware. I think they said it hosted 92 different instances of malware in the last month or something.

Can we please blame this on Marley?

Here’s the message.

Oops! Poor Tubadiva, I sent her copy too!

No problems in Opera Next Browser 22.0.1471.16 running adblock plugin, or Fireforx, or IE.

It’s still happening in Safari on my MacBook, and fyi, I’m probably not coming back again until after this is fixed (because it’s very annoying to have to click past two giant security warnings every time I load any page on the SDMB, and I’m not interested in turning off a security feature just for the SDMB. I love you guys but not that much).

So how is the SDMB going to resolve this? Clearly the board needs the advertising revenue but how do you insure that some ads won’t be chock full of malware? I hate to think how many casual guests such warning screens would scare away from this place. I do hope you can find a satisfactory solution to this.

ISTM the solution is to switch to a more reputable ad company. Obviously the current company doesn’t care that much.

Don’t know if this sheds any more light but after running into to the page, I emptied my cache and cookies; when I went back, the one unique cookie was “_cb_ls”.
Googling “_cb_ls” led to the Composite Blocking List page (http://cbl.abuseat.org/" which states:
“What is the CBL?
The CBL takes its source data from very large mail server (SMTP) installations. Some of these are pure spamtrap servers, and some are not.
The CBL only lists IPs exhibiting characteristics which are specific to open proxies of various sorts (HTTP, socks, AnalogX, wingate, Bagle call-back proxies etc) and dedicated Spam BOTs (such as Cutwail, Rustock, Lethic etc) which have been abused to send spam, worms/viruses that do their own direct mail transmission, or some types of trojan-horse or “stealth” spamware, dictionary mail harvesters etc.”

The popup kept me from logging in on Safari but I could log in using Firefox (Mac iBook G4).

Me, too!

So, just for a less techie person (me, that is), there was malware on the site and the warning was accurate?

Just got the same warning again on my home computer.

7am here in Thailand, and I just received the message:

**Reported Attack Page!

This web page at boards.straightdope.com has been reported as an attack page and has been blocked based on your security preferences.

Attack pages try to install programs that steal private information, use your computer to attack others, or damage your system.

Some attack pages intentionally distribute harmful software, but many are compromised without the knowledge or permission of their owners.**

That’s on Firefox. Also received it here in IE, which I’m using now, but it corrected after I cleared the cookies. However, I still cannot use it in Firefox.

Is Firefox always so dramatic?

Firefox user here…I’m getting the big scary warning screen too.

I just checked Safari on another computer; it’s doing the same thing.

I just got the message on Firefox on my Windows 7 laptop.

It directed me to this URL: Google Transparency Report

I’m not a techie. Tried going to the Secutiry part of Firefox and told it to override malware warnings from the Board’s address, but that doesn’t work. Don’t know what else I’m supposed to do. IE is working now – again, all I had to do here was delete the cookies. Firefox just doesn’t want to cooperate.

Is this something that’s to be fixed on the Board’s end, or is this an individual computer problem?

Okay, did some clicking and am now back on the Board using Firefox. What an ordeal to endure when all I want is my Dope and my morning coffee! May have to visit the live lesbian sex shows tonight just to calm myself down.

Thanks - that worked.

You gotta do what you gotta do.

Firefox 28.0 . Maybe a Flash thingy? (I so want to pit Flash).

Made it in on Chrome via the “proceed at your own risk”. I use AdBlock, so am not terribly worried about malware from a message board.

The problem did not occur earlier in the day, either on my Android phone’s Chrome or on my Windows 8.1 laptop, but very suddenly occurred just a few minutes ago as I type.

Each new thread I load gets me the warning that I have to acknowledge, then PAYOR.

I’m getting attack warnings in Firefox again.
