Chronos, you've made an ass of yourself.

Moderators are supposed to point out potential problems to the message board administrators. I mean, that’s what administrators DO, they supervise others, no matter what the line of work.

Manny’s comment about discussing things with administrators is totally in line. He’s closed countless threads about dope and how to smoke it, and usually noted that such postings are against MB policy. By now, anyone who reads GQ even semi-regularly should have noticed a pattern. If someone violates a frequently-stated policy, we can believe that he’s a) incredibly ignorant or b) willfully violating policy. If this person is not a newbie, we generally go with B.

I’m leaving this thread open because there are still valid points.

Lynn

Man, that is just sick. There is a special place in Hell for someone who goes around pulling shit like that.

OneChance

Good point, and something I wish I’d thought of. Now that I look at it, I find a number of things that should’ve clued me in. I feel like such a schmuck now. If anyone needs me, I’ll be over in the corner, kicking my own ass.

It may be a “simple fact,” but if so, it’s not one that everyone (even only moderately intelligent and sentient posters) is aware of.

I was only vaguely aware that cross-posting is forbidden here, having come across warnings in several closed threads, but have no clue how other message boards work. I don’t participate in any other message boards; I was only drawn to this one because of the Straight Dope, and the occasionally intelligent and witty questions, answers and general banter.

Not everyone who posts here spends time shuttling back and forth between the SDMB, Fathom, chat [sub]<<insert whatever disclaimers are appropriate>>[/sub], and who knows where else (not that that’s bad). And to assume that the apocalyptic consequences of cross-posting are known by all because that’s the way it is everywhere on the Internet seems to require a rather narrow view of the audience of the Straight Dope and the SDMB.

THANK YOU!

You and I, it would seem, are pretty much in the same situation. I don’t exactly bounce around from chat room to chat room. I have never heard of crossposting in the only other two ‘chat rooms’ (financial) I occasionally participate in. Doesn’t seem to be a major problem there, except for commercial spamming (or solicitation) – posting URLs for financial sites from competitors, for example, which is understandable enough).

And contrary to what some might think, I don’t go through all the threads on SDMB, and especially the closed ones. I did notice at times that a given thread has been closed because it had been posted in the wrong forum, or the tone of the exchange had risen to high enough a level enough to swing it over to the Pit. Both very valid reasons. But crossposting, I either never saw or did see and it simply didn’t register.

So, basically, I’m definitely not an expert in Netiquette. More than willing to learn, but cut a guy a bit of slack.

A few of the posters have said that a mountain was made out of a molehill.

I totally agree.

Shit, all it takes is a little cross-posting? I’ve been trying to get a Warning for months…to the point of sending naked pictures and mash notes to TubaDiva, TVeblen, and Gaudere. Received nothing but tight-lipped silences from the former two, and requests for more from the last.

Meanwhile, just let me step aside and politely applaud this thread. THIS is the sort of soap opera I come into the Pit for, and which has been all too sadly lacking in the past weeks.

:::omni-not, one of the lead characters, taking a modest bow:::

BTW, in my previous post, I of course forgot to add, among the definite no-nos, the spamming of a stock on another stock thread. Of that extremely common occurrence, I am extremely aware.

(Just to set the record straight)

It certainly can’t compete with the level that your able to achieve, Mr. Cynical. I mean, that suckers’ in there good and tight. I doubt it’ll ever get a chance to see the light.

What would be even more amusing would be a poster who refers to himself as ‘Mr. Cynical’ being taken in by such a scam as Little Tassies’.

Now that would be damn funny!

Omni-cool. It’s okay, I was just pointing out why cross posting isn’t such a good idea. Don’t feel bad for being taken in by little Tassie. It shows you have a good heart, and it’s that stupid troll who deserves a huge sulfuric acid enema.

That is just the lowest thing anyone can do-make up things like that. It’s sick sick sick.

Apparently, repitition is bad. Repitition is bad. Repitition is bad.
Look at me! I said something three times instead of one…

…and this makes Chronos a jerk how?
I think at best we have an anthill here.

Ain’t got no time for the gibba-jabba, foo.

You still can’t read.

At this point, I would rip you a new asshole, but since you appear to be 100% asshole already, that would be redundant.

CnoteChris: See above.

:: timidly ::

Um, I’d just like to chime in that I too was unaware that cross-posting was absolutely verboten, as I see no such notification in the rules. And since my use of the internet for posting and/or personal communicating is limited to this message board, I too would have been unaware of any nebulous rule to that effect, which rule might be known to many under the general topice of “netiquette.” And I would not appreciate being called “duplicitous” for not knowing this.

Other than that, I’m not such a fool as to wade into this.

I see now that CnoteChris has adopted the fatherjohn technique of pit posting, complete with poor spelling, and use of other people’s words. Fitting, for such a dynamic, original, and lucid personality.

And I see now that Mr. Cynical has adopted the fatherjohn technique of Pit Posting, complete with quoting other people and deleting the text, for the sheer purpose of demonstrating that their words are below him.

Poor taste, Cyn. Very, very poor taste and bad form.

I’m rather stunned re the vehemence of complaints about Chronos’ rebuke. Unwarrented at best. Why so much petty whinging about a mere rebuke for the yoemen work the moderators do --any time in unmoderated fora should tell you what it would be like without-- I shall never understand. As for the follow up, perhaps a cooling off period would be warrented.

Jodi sed:

Yes, but if you had posted across the fora, and all your posts but one were killed, with explanation, would you have started a Pit thread about it? Unless you were to react as the folks in this thread have, I daresay things would not degenerate to name-calling.

Straight Dope Moment:

Actually, in the scripts it’s either “jibber-jabber” or “jibber jabber”. Or, in Mr. T’s inimitable dialect, “jibba-jabba.”

([url=“http://www.sockiipress.org/ateam/”]Nicole Pellegrini[/url is the A-Team goddess.)

Carry on.

Crossposting is a jerk behaviour. So is sarcastically admonishing someone for doing something bad. Remember negative reinforcement?

Salaam.

“Don’t do that” is bad? What, you expect Chronos to drop to his knees, genuflect while beating himself, and wail “Oh forgive my intrustion, O Great SDMB Poster, but the guidelines of my job require that I insist you refrain from cross-posting! Please, spare thy wrath of thy humble servant Chronos, for I mean no disrespect! No, master, please don’t beat me! No-o-o-o!”

Ummmmm, SPOOFE, if you will kindly look back, you will find that the technique described was, in fact, taken from me.

I count on you to do things like “remember” and “be smart”. You are failing me.

ANDROS –

Allow me to quote me, because I’m ever so quotable  :

Besides, I would have to defend CHRONOS in any event. He lives in Montana and that’s the rule.

Oh, and fatherjohn originated the use poor spelling and using other people’s words?

It was bad form to make the comparison in the first place, Cyn… that’s what I’m saying.
