Cigarette smoke didn’t start smelling bad to me until probably 4 years after I quit. But it does now.
What smelled bad to me right away as soon as my sense of smell returned was my kitty’s breath!!! I had no idea it stunk so much!
I’ve been inhaling my mother’s secondhand smoke for years, and I hate how the smell gets into all my clothes. I’ll do laundry, put stuff in my closet, then when I get something out the next day it’ll smell like smoke. I’ll only notice it once I’m out of the house for a while, though. The worst is when I go on vacation and I’ve packed all my clean clothes (or so you’d think) in my suitcase, only to get to my destination, open up the suitcase, and wish I could wash them again. Sometimes, actually, I do.
But the first thing I thought of when I read the thread title was how every now and then, one of my mom’s cigatettes will smell faintly of pot. Not all the time - it’s maybe one out of every pack or so - but it’s enough that we’ve both noticed it. Think maybe the tobacco people figure the smokers aren’t addicted enough yet and now they’re adding the odd pot-laced bonus cigarette to their packs of smokes?
It’s an impurity of some sort. Burning bamboo leaves smell like dope. Bugs, trash and stuff get into the mix.
I regret that I can no longer eat hot and sour soup with the wild abandon of my smoking days.
