The problem is that Sheehan’s ravings are undermining some valid gripes and points she made in Texas. Sure, we here at the SDMB can separate the nuance that she has said good things and idiotic things, but thats lost on most of America. That some of her comments are being applied to the anti-war movement in general is sadly a reality we have to live with. All the more reason she should wise up and shut the fuck up, it’s called shooting yourself in the foot.
Bob Lablaw You are saying what many of us feel. The woman lost her child in a bullshit war, and it’s tearing her up. She probably is going over the edge. But, it is not without reason. Besides, what she is supposed to have said about the government needing enemies or someone to blame is right on the money. Nothing is ever Bush’s fault, even when it is. It’s the terroritsts, the libruls, the america haters, anyone but him. Bullshit on Bush and his cronies and his lame ass excuses. He’s had 5-6 years to figger it out and get it right. Instead, it’s stay the course blah blah, Bullshit. He’s the worst damn leader I’ve ever seen. He couldn’t lead water downhill without fucking up.
What amazes me is that it can all be traced back to Clinton and his wee-wee. I watched Louis Freeh on 60 Minutes last night. He knew he had an unworkable relationship with Clinton and despised him. So when he had the Khobar Towers case locked up he deliberately waited for the next administration to turn the case over for prosecution so that Clinton wouldn’t get the “credit” and the “next administration” would. Freeh was apparently completely oblivious of the fact that he was playing a despicable form of politics and depriving the American people of their right to have their elected official’s chosen AG prosecute the case. Freeh then had the audacity to complain about Clinton’s conduct at meetings with the Saudi Crown Prince. Meetings that Freeh did not attend, but relied on the lies of an unnamed source for Clinton’s conduct. Well, witnesses who did attend (and are named) the meeting say that Clinton did request Khobar Towers aid and did not make a library funding request. Freeh, in the meantime, in violation of the law, asked Bush I, then the former President, to make the Khobar request, which Freeh credits Poppy with doing, despite no witnesses. Well, foreigin policy is the exclusive province of the current administration. But this makes clear that Freeh wanted a Bush to get credit. Yes, Clinton made a mistake with Freeh: he didn’t fire him. But I digress.
For some reason, people think Ms. Sheehan is crazy. They are entitled to their opinion. There is ample evidence that Bush has proposed a military response to the bird flu. What’s he going to do? Use the flypaper theory? Shoot people who have the flu? (I can see Bush smirking now with his evil chuckle: give 'em shots, heh heh) Hey dummy, it’s the flu, a virus, not an invading furce of evil dewars (coke and scotch). Maybe stocking up on anti-virals in government freezers would be helpful.
Sheesh, I’m with you guys on most things, and I think your tinfoil hats are too tight today.
I’m with you up to here, but this…
The dude became pres of the most powerful nation on earth and was re-elected. I think he’s doing just fine, it’s just that his goals and the goals of the nation are on different paths!
Bush isn’t the problem, the American voter is. It’s because of us that people like him can even get elected.
You forgot “Praise the leader!”

Oh boy :smack:
She jumped the shark weeks ago and wants to relive the glory days before Katrina.
It’s desperate and sad.
Of course, it’s in his best interest not to because she’s just making herself look stupid.
I have sympathy for her and I have no love for bush, but it’s sad that she’s gone off the deep end so fast.
Yes, as it stands now, they’ve both messed up.
Originally Bush should have met with her and paid her lip service to shut her up. She was basically a one trick pony whose trick was Bush refusing to see her. Since he is a moron and didn’t, she won that battle. She should have shut the hell up after that, and continued to ride that pony in a sane dignified manner, something she has failed miserably at.
Being a succesful politician and getting re-elected has absolutely nothing to do with being a good leader. I would hope on a board devoted to fighting ignorance I would not have to explain this. Leadership is a whole lot more than winning a popularity contest.
Although I agree that we have SOME of the electorate to blame. Let’s not forget he lost the first time and many of us voted against him the second time.
Oh I totally agree, I should have qualified my remarks a little better. I meant to say in regards to his personal goals, he’s doing just fine. In terms of placing blame though, I certainly place a heavy burden on the electorate that votes these fools in. How the hell did Santorum get elected?
Ahh, I see and I agree.
That about sums it up. This falls under “misleading thread titles”, I’m afraid. Maybe she meant to call Bush a Chickenhawk. Two birds with one stone, and all that.
And this relates to the thread how exactly? Kinda ran right past the point there, or is it really that hard to believe that the sole point of the thread is that Sheehan has gone off the rails a bit?
The idea was that the military could help with a quarantine. Not a bad idea, except that most medical experts say a quarantine not very effective against a flu virus that can be transmitted between humans. So far, this lastest avian flu can’t, and that’s what makes it not-so-scary… yet.
Why isn’t this sort of thing worth figuring out? Okay, maybe something like a flu virus would make a quarantine ineffective. But is there anything we might want to quarantine against if needed where the quarantine would be effective? If so, wouldn’t we be better off having figured out the legalities and chain-of-command before it happened?
Lost it?
There are those of us who feel she never had it in the first place.
So if we don’t prepare for huricanes we are foolish.
If we do prepare for a pandemic we are looking for “enemies”?
No matter what situation arises, she will blame Bush. this negates some of her more valid claims.
Has anyone seen pics of her from before Casey died? In all the pics I have seen of her, her face seems to be etched with pain and confusion over the death of her son. I bet there is a noticeable difference in pics of her before Casey died. And I can understand that. I really think she is staying busy focusing on Bush so she can avoid the pain of her son’s death. I really feel sorry for her when the limelight fades and she is left alone with her grief…
Attempting to prepare for a pandemic is all well and good, but Bush has shown no evidence that he has any clue as to how to do it any more than he had any intention to help the dying in New Orleans until it started costing him politically.
I’m proud to be a Bush basher and am thinking about putting on my tombstone “Voted Against Bush Every Time”. I consider us to be like the boy in the fable pointing out “The Emperor Has No Clothes”. Cindy Sheehan takes it a step further, pointing out “And He’s Not Very Well Endowed.”
The country needs people like Sheehan, even if she goes overboard on occasion. She serves the country far better than Harriet Miers, who gushes like a school girl when she talks about her Bushie Boy.
Uh… right.
