Cinemascope

Don’t Know whether this question belongs here or in GQ…

Anyway, what is the last movie shot in Cinemascope?

I want to say 2001: A Space Odyssey but I’d need some time to check.

Wait, do you mean CinemaScope or Cinerama? I’m pretty sure CinemaScope is still used. (CinemaScope and Panavison are collectively known as “scope” in the film exhibition industry. They both refer to a process of compressing the image on film then showing it through an amorphic lens to stretch it out again.)

And if Cinerama is in fact what you mean (i.e. the system with three cameras and three projectors on a curved screen), the last film using that process wasThe Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm.

There are actually 2 types of Cinerama. The original is a process of filming with three separate cameras and running the films through three projectors. The second type is 70mm Cinerama which is filmed with 70mm film and an amorphic lens so the image will fit a curved Cinerama screen. The last of the first was Brothers Grimm or How the West Was Won - both 1962 (Unless you count the travelogue Cinerama’s Russian Adventure - 1966) and the last of the last was Song of Norway - 1970, which beats 2001 by 2 years.
