Una’s disagreement would have been much clearer if she’d used quote marks.
Well the thread was a poll aimed at asking women (ones who are not trans-women, i.e. cis-women) if they cared, especially if the transwoman still had a penis. So what you think is no more on point than what those men who object think. (Or what I think. Which is that what I think does not matter as it has nothing to do with me but I still wonder how a casual observer can tell who is a transwoman vs someone crossdressing.)
The results (the potential selection bias duly noted) demonstrate that most don’t care. Those few who do care may be more willing to deal with their discomfort once they appreciate the serious risks a transwoman is subject to by using the men’s room.
Presumably, the same reasons so many men are willing to enforce cultural norms no matter who gets hurt or how badly. Transgenderism is hardly the only thing that is subjected to howling primates enforcing conformity on all.
There are men who find anything outside what they consider sexual/gender norms to be extremely threatening, hence things like “corrective rape” and, yes, beating to death the transgendered.
Note the reactions in the story Una told - the women who were upset asked someone else to remove the transwoman, they didn’t didn’t commit physical violence against her. The men, however, didn’t see an outside authority to remove the “offending” person, they took matters into their own hands.
ETA: THIS DOES NOT MEAN I BELIEVE ALL MEN ARE EVIL, POO-FLINGING APES. But it only takes a minority of a crowd to make for a very, very ugly situation.

I don’t know how I would tell, and even though I have no problem with the idea of trans women using the ladies room, if I saw someone in the ladies who looked a lot like man, I probably wouldn’t react well. It probably wouldn’t occur to me that “oh, this is just a trans woman who isn’t passing very well”, though having read this thread I guess I would be much more likely to think that now.
