Cis Women- Do you have an issue with trans women who've not had SRS in the women's room?

Wordy title.

Anyway, the question is for cis women (women who were born with female genitalia and have XX chromosomes): do you have a problem with trans women using the women’s bathroom, even before they’ve had SRS (sexual reassignment surgery; aka having the penis built into a vulva/vagina).

This came up in a recent thread about gender identity and trans* people, and a poster said he felt like (cis) women would be angry about “people with penises” using the women’s room. In my experience this is untrue, and the vast majority of women don’t care what’s under your skirt as long as you keep to yourself.

So let’s see who’s correct, shall we?

(the poll allows for multiple choices, so if you are unsure or have a further opinion you want to state, you can still vote which way you lean, if you wish)

I would not mind. How would I even know?

Trans people have to deal with feeling misplaced and awkward like, 24/7. If seeing a penis on a woman standing next to me in a changing room makes me feel awkward for 5 minutes I can get the fuck over it. She would feel 100x more awkward with boobs in the men’s changing room, so I’d rather she changed with the rest of us girls.

Well, how would we know what’s under the skirt or pants? Women’s restrooms typically have private stalls, so if a person’s exterior physical appearance is “female,” who would notice?
Then again, what if the person has a penis, some facial hair, sees themselves as a woman, but looks exactly like Bruce Willis, wears jeans and a T-shirt, etc.? Personally, I don’t care if you have three penises as long as you keep them to yourself in the bathroom, but obviously many would take issue with this.

This is exactly what I thought (and I almost added it to the question in the poll, but decided it would poison the well). How am I even supposed to know what someone presenting as female has going on in their underwear? I’ve known some pretty masculine looking cis women, some of whom even grew a bit of facial hair! That’s a big part of why I don’t think cis women care; it already happens and most people aren’t throwing up a fuss.

Yup. And even if she’s changing her loathes or something, I don’t stare! Plus, even with a penis, if she identifies as a chick, she’s a chick in the ways that matter.

Plus one. Your junk is your business, I just came in here to pee. As long as you’re not preventing me from doing so, I have no problem.

Of course I don’t mind her using the ladies’ room.

And like the others said, how would I even know?

Come on everyone, with “how would I know?”. You might not always know, so those times wouldn’t count, but a lot of times it is really obvious.

I wouldn’t care though, if it was clear the person was trying to look like a woman. If you look like a man and biologically are a man, you can’t just use the women’s room, pervert.

I’m on the “wouldn’t know” - and if you did look male, well, the advantage to a woman’s restroom is that there are stalls.

I don’t really care to see anyone’s genitalia in a women’s restroom - even women shouldn’t be flashing me.

I think the issue with women’s locker rooms is far more complex. And I think private changing rooms - within the women’s locker room - are probably the best solution for a pre operative trans woman. Too many cis women (and I’d assume many trans women) carry the baggage of sexual assault and that often has some form of “whipping it out when it isn’t expected” trigger - and they need to be respected as well.

Even if most people don’t care, all it takes is one crazy person that tries to beat your head in for “being a man in the ladies room” and you learn quickly not to take your chances.

Things like this do make the news from time to time, when people bother to report on it.

I wouldn’t mind unisex bathrooms myself, given that no leering, grabbing, or other horseplay goes down on either side. I’ve never seen a multi-stall unisex bathroom so I’ve never had the chance to find out if they’re perfectly fine or people somehow become unchained animals in them.

I’m one of those people who wouldn’t particularly care if all bathrooms are unisex. I really don’t care what sort of genitalia a person has, or whether it was original equipment or aftermarket, as long as e doesn’t interfere with me using the bathroom.

When I was pregnant, I had to use the men’s room a couple of times, I either sent my husband in to see if someone was in there, or I called at the door to ask. Urinals are funny looking, IMO, but really, I’m not there to see the sights.

I don’t go into the bathroom to check anyone else out. As long as you don’t do something that makes me feel targeted, I’m probably not going to notice.

Which direction the feet face while they’re peeing?

If the person is an actual transexual and lives as a woman 24/7 I would not have a problem with them as such an individual would be considered a woman by my beliefs. Of course, as many have said it would probably be difficult to tell if such an individual is genetically male the way women’s restrooms are usually designed. However, if they still urinate standing up, they should use the men’s room.

Doesn’t bother me if they’re a trans person presenting as a woman. As others pointed out, who can tell in a stall anyway? As long as she’s not whipping it out and peeing in the sink, who cares?

Heck, I don’t even particularly care if they look like a man, as long as they just do their business and aren’t creepy about it. Again, who can tell?

The only thing that creeps me out in the ladies’ room is women who bring boys over a certain age in and let them wander around peering through the cracks in the stalls. Now that’s creepy.

If the person is in a stall, why would you care if she urinated standing up?

Has this ever actually happened to you? I’m not trying to be confrontational, I’m genuinely curious. Whenever this topic comes up, it’s the first think people mention, but I’ve never had it happen. I kind of assumed it was an urban legend.

I’m hesitant to even post this, because I suspect I’ll get teased mercilessly, but my husband is a cis male (and quite manly!) and he pees sitting down about 95% of the time. Not in public, since urinals are easier, but always at home. He lived alone a long time and hated cleaning up all the pee splatter, and now he thinks it’s just easier (plus I also hate cleaning pee splatter).

Also, I sometimes pee standing up, especially if the toilet is mega-gross. So I just don’t see this as a clear-cut line.

Yeah, this is actually the point of the poll. Trans* people need to have laws in place to protect THEM because it’s trans* people being assaulted in bathrooms.

There is not an issue with “fake women” using women’s rooms to molest ladies. That is a made up red herring. The issue is that trans* people need to pee like all humans, and they need to be able to do so safely.

I still maintain that the Venn diagram of men who pee standing up and men who don’t clean the bathroom regularly is a circle.

In a public restroom, not that I recall, but I just mean seeing a transwoman and knowing she’s not biologically a woman.
