Cities mentioned in Huey Lewis' "Heart of Rock and Roll"

Which reminds me of “We Built This City (on Rock & Roll)” where the generic DJ prattle mid-song was overdubbed by the local Chicago radio stations to promote themselves. I’m sure this was not limited to Chicago, of course.

Also Woody Guthrie, Roger Miller, Hoyt Axton, Chet Baker, Roy Clark, Eddie Cochran, Lee Hazlewood, Bob Dunn, Chainsaw Kittens, Flaming Lips, Reba McEntire, Patti Page, Bob Wills, Sheb Wooley, Conway Twitty, Gene Autry - to name a few influential and/or contemporary early 80s musicians.

OKC and Tulsa are both on Rt 66.

I always wondered why we rated two, though.

Better, Bobby Rydell’s Kissin’ Time, released the same year: “They’re kissin’ in Cleveland, Kansas City too . . .” Bobby was 17.

Later recorded by — Kiss!

Huh! I never heard that version growing up in western Canada.

Dancing in the Streets. Shout outs to:
Chicago
New Orleans
New York City
Philadelphia P.A.,
Baltimore
D.C
motor city
Way down in L.A

And these wacky places:
in the streets
around the world
across the nation
Across the ocean blue

And spoken at the end of the Mama’s and Papa’s version:
“Not to mention Hafilax, Nova Scotia.”
“Not to mention [?]”
“Well, [?], you know?” “Yes, I know.”
“Manchester?” “And, oh, Amherst, Amherst.”
“Alexandria?” “And Virginia, Virginia.”
“Falls Church?” “Where’s that?”
“[?] --oh, Boyle Heights”
“Boyle heights? Never heard of it…”
