Cities painting BLM on pubic streets

So my nearest city, which I of course don’t live in, painted BLM across a major intersection. Fully spelled out in huge yellow letters, but without the hash tag, applied by city workers.

This can’t be legal right? Is the city endorsing this group and if so on what authority? I don’t agree with BLM so what right does the city have to put that on a public road? Can I sue the city to have it removed?

The irony is that just a few days before a young black kid was shot in his home by a drive by shooter that unleashed at least 20 rounds in the neighborhood. By young I mean 10, and just around the corner from the BLM street paint.

I don’t hear anyone protesting that shit and that is why BLM is a joke and we look like clowns.

Mods, please edit the thread title…

[aside]I used to have a pretty high-up job at our city-wide library system. When I came on board, one of my colleagues told me that the most important thing I needed to learn *immediately *was that whenever I sent out a press release from the “Anytown Public Library System” to make sure there was an L in “Public.” Good advice. Just an obvious type o in the head liner, sorry about that, no need to get on you high horse about it

Now you’re just splitting hairs.

Booooo!

You know, democracy isn’t about pleasing ALL the people All of the time.
Take a seat.

Why would it be illegal?

*> This can’t be legal right? *
Yes, it is legal. What law do you think it violates? It isn’t endorsing a religion or something else prohibited by the 1st Amendment.

*> Is the city endorsing this group and if so on what authority? *
I think it’s safe to say the city is endorsing the sentiment that black lives matter. In D.C., this was done on the Mayor’s authority. If you aren’t talking about D.C., then I’m not sure.

*> I don’t agree with BLM so what right does the city have to put that on a public road? *
The city’s rights are not limited to the things you agree with.

> Can I sue the city to have it removed?
I hate to trot out the old chestnut, but it’s applicable here. You can sue for anything you want. Your chance of winning the suit is quite small. On what grounds are you thinking you would sue?

> I don’t hear anyone protesting that shit and that is why BLM is a joke and we look like clowns.
I think most people are already opposed to drive-by-shooters killing kids, so a protest seems unnecessary.

You mean “typo”?

Anyway, it gave me an opening to tell an amusing story from my past. So sue me instead of the city.

Also, I’m afraid of high horses. You know, in movies people fall off of them all the time, but it’s really a very long way down off your average horse and a person could get hurt.

There is… a lot to unpack in this sentence. But I’m pretty sure only one of these things is true.

No, I refuse to take a seat. I’m saying the city should not endorse BLM which is what they have done. My city has sided with a political group, on a public road for all to see, with a movement I don’t agree with. Just think if they had painted Trump across the same intersection. This whole thing is getting out of hand.

Yes miss secretary typo

Call the mayor and/or your city council person. Use Twitter if you want.

Rosa Parks says ‘hi’.

No, we have to talk about everything if we are going to change anything. Black lives don’t matter in black culture now, and have not in my lifetime unless it is a white person taking it. I’m pushing 50 so that is a long time.

This wasn’t always true. We can’t just put up BLM slogans everywhere and think things will change.

That slogan is proven to be a lie everyday and nothing is said.

Look I’m black, I know you think that is a touche but its not.

I don’t know where you live, but you would probably find more than a few like-minded people in your community. Write a letter to the editor in your local paper (if you still have one) or even an op-ed. (But get someone to proofread it for you.) Check out the local Republican party headquarters. Seriously, I’m fairly sure there are others who feel as you do.

Okay, let’s try this: You’re the mayor of a town with a hundred denizens. 800 people want a stop light installed at the corner of Elm and Main. 200 people don’t.

What do you do?
Now, juxtapose that, with the nonsense you just wrote.

I’m certainly cool with BLACK LIVES MATTER painted in big yellow letters on the street. I would be kinda pissed if instead a city allowed ABORTION IS MURDER or, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN to be painted on the street.
