Citizen Kane on a DV camcorder

I’ve been into making digital movies for a few years now, and I got the Citizen Kane DVD for Christmas. Night before last, I watched the movie with the excellent Roger Ebert commentary. His explainations of the photographic and sound techniques pioneered by the film was fascinating, and it raised a question in my mind. Would it be possible to make a movie with the same production values (sets, sound, photography, acting–the whole package) as Citizen Kane with a commercially available mini digital video camcorder and a single computer for editing and effects? Is it possible? What range of budget would be required?

Can the camera do the ‘deep focus’ that is heavily used in the film?
