Citrus fruits

I’ve never been able to eat citrus fruit segment by segment - the segment membrane makes me gag. When I was a child, I would split the segment at the top, peel back the membrane and eat the insides, but that makes a terrible mess. I will occasionally eat grapefruit by cutting it in half and scooping out the insides with a spoon, but oranges and tangerines are not edible to me unless juiced. Stupid gag reflex. :smack:

That method of eating works fine for pomelos; the pulp is firm enough that you can remove it by hand without having it turn to mush.

some ways of eating citrus here really surprised me :slight_smile: I always cut grapefruits, oranges and lemons with a knife! Only with mandarines I do differently - I peel a skin and then I separate those parts.
And now I’m getting hungry :smiley:

Pomelos! I love them! They are sweeter and waterier than a grapefruit, so lovely.

And I adore the deconstruction involved in eating one. Something about it is so very rewarding!
