City of Heroes - Comic Book Heroes Write-Ups

How would you create Superman in the City of Heroes system? Or other licensed property types? Obviously, the fit won’t be perfect. And some heroes wouldn’t fit at all.

I’d construct Supes as a Science Tank with Invulnerability/Superstrength.

Science only because nothing else really fits an individual who has the normal abilities of his species except Natural - which seems wrong for Aliens.

I’m sitting here with a whole list of DC and Marvel and other types that I’ve written up, and I might throw them in if this thread attracts any attention.

Incidentally, so far the best fit for a licensed property hero is Wolverine as a Mutant Scrapper with Claws/Regeneration. That one’s practically tailor-made.

Bonus points if you link to screenshots of your best attempt to use the costume designer to look like the hero in question. (Of course, you couldn’t use them in the game, strictly speaking, because it’s against the policy.)

I think **Superman **could be Natural origin - The developers have repeatedly mentioned that Natural is meant to encompass everyone whose powers are normal/native for their race; i.e. aliens, demons, Atlanteans, Sasquatch, Elementals, what have you - but you’ve got the powerset right. He just won’t ever seem like he’s completely right without the billowing cape though… :frowning:

**Batman **would be a, a, Martial Arts Scrapper? But he’s clearly got the Blaster power of Devices.

I think a lot of comic book heroes would be incredibly hard to facsimile into the COH universe. That’s one of my problems with City Of Heroes - the limited power sets and limited ways to combine them. I mean, they’ve done a fantastic job in general - I am loving the game and will probably play it for some time to come. And I realize there’s a finite amount of resources one can spend on designing and coding and constantly tweaking a massive software rollout.

But -
Your Shaolin-style monk (a Scrapper) will NEVER be able to toss Web Grenades, or to learn to attack his foes psychically. NEVER.

All powers of a type look the same. Why can’t Blastwave shoot yellow power bolts and Gamma Gal shoot red ones?

I also think the Archetypes are a little tightly defined. Sorry, your blaster MUST have low hitpoints, and your Defender MUST have a ranged attack power, etc.

And there are, oh roughly, 3 or 400 powers in 50 or so pools, but some big omissions. No animal control/summoning? No shapeshifting? 28 ways to use Fire/Ice but no Sonic attacks?

Back on Subject: (Sorry for ranting in your cool thread, CG!)

[li]**Flash **- obviously would have a Super Speed pool, but what else? A Scrapper? Martial Arts? None of these seem to fit him very well, let alone define his primary powers.[/li][li]**Storm **- pretty easy to do weather control type characters. I think it’s Defender, Electrical Blast, Storm Summoning.[/li][li]Spider-Man - impossible to replicate at all well for many reasons.[/li][li]Punisher - judging by the fact that he’s one of the most common ripoffs you’ll see in the game, I think he’s pretty easy to copy. An Assault Rifle/Devices Blaster - ditto Nick Fury.[/li][/ul]

Flash I had specified as a Controller … Kinetics/Gravity. The current incarnation of the Flash can steal and lend speed. It’s not perfect, but serviceable.

Bats is a tough call, but Scrapper MA/Super Reflexes fits best (IMO)… after all, he can get by without gadgets.

Green Lantern - Defender, I think. Force Field / Energy Blast. Origin - Science.

I agree with Gravity/Kinetics for The Flash, although you could go with Martial Arts/Super Reflexes as well.

Let’s see, can I do the whole Fantastic Four? All Science origin, of course.

Ben Grimm, the Ever-Lovin’ Blue-Eyed Thing – Tanker, Invulnerability/Super Strength. It’s tempting to go with Stone Armor, but the powers don’t really fit Benjy. And to really roleplay it, you need to do without a travel power, since none of them fit him. You could cheat Superjump in there, though, to fudge a bit.

**Johnny Storm, The Human Torch ** – Blaster, Fire/Fire, of course, with Fly.

**Reed Richards, Mr. Fantastic ** – Um. After some thought, I think I would try to make him a Blaster, with Energy Blast and Devices.

**Susan Storm Richards, the Invisible Woman ** – Controller, Gravity/Force Field. Superjump for the move, or maybe Fly.

You forgot the Stealth pool powers.

:smack:

I meant to put that in there, really I did.

You can’t really do Superman under the current game set up. He has too many powers from too many power sets. The only eye beams are in the Radiation Blast from defenders, and there is really nothing that does his super-breath. He also needs the super speed power set.

Batman can get some gadgets from the various pool powers, like the Aid Others power.
