Civil forfeiture vs the 4th Amendment

Has the idea of civil forfeiture been challenged on 4th Amendment grounds?

Did you try Googling that question?

Here’s the third hit I get: http://free.ij.org/new-jersey-civil-forfeiture-laws-declared-unconstitutional-2

It’s written by the organization that challenged it, and sounds more like advertising than real information, but perhaps can give some additional keywords for searching.

This is a long articlein a recent New Yorker on the excesses of civil forfeiture.

It covers some of the history for how it gets around the limits created by the 4th Amendment (and it isn’t recent, the Founders almost immediately passed civil forfeiture laws as a way to deal with piracy and smuggling).

Fourthamendment.com offers some insight;

Sometimes I experience future shock- this is such a time.
Constitutional Amendments have web pages. It’s great to live in the future. <3

Also try the firstamendmentcenter.org.

First amendment Center having a website, not astonishing.
