Disclaimer: I am not seeking legal advice. I am asking an academic question about the rules of civil procedure in various states.
Question: I am curious to know whether there are any states that use a code of civil procedure that is identical to, or very close to, the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure.
I know that many states have adopted rules of evidence that are quite similar to, or identical to, the federal rules of evidence, and I’m wondering whether there has been a parallel process regarding civil procedure rules.
I am familiar with the California Code of Civil Procedure, which I would describe as significantly different from the Federal Rules. Of course it uses many of the same terms and procedures, but several of the terms are different (or used to mean different things) and the numbering of the rules bears no relation to the numbering of the Federal Rules.
I’m particularly curious to learn more about New York, Illinois, Texas, Florida, and Arizona.
