If Trump were a real human, this would be when he realizes how bad things are about to get for him.
Of course, he’s not a real human and this won’t have any effect on him whatsoever. On the other hand, he’s clearly at the point where consequences don’t matter. His only goal at this point is to win the election. At least that will start another round of delays as TPTB decide if they can continue all of this if he’s the president. And he’ll lie, cheat and steal to get elected. I think even he knows that if he doesn’t win, his life will be over. Both because all these legal cases that he’s been juggling are going to come crashing down on him at once, and he’ll have exactly no political allies/friends anymore. He will finally be nothing more than a random citizen (even if he promises to run again).
I wonder if he ever lined up something like, sure, your corporation can put my name on any of its hotels; in exchange, I get (a) not millions of dollars, but (b) the nontransferable right to stay in one of the rooms, at no cost, whenever I like; I’m also allowed to use one of your company cars, no charge, when I please.
If so, what happens if someone gets a huge judgment against him, or if he files for bankruptcy?
No idea what bankruptcy/judgment against him does. But if it comes out during proceedings that he did this and he didn’t declare the value of the rooms/car usage, the IRS would have a pretty slum-dunk case against him.
Here’s what i was amusing myself with during a sleepless night last night…
EJC gets Mar a Lago: Palm Beach County tax appraiser’s valuations, which ranged from $18 million to $37 million.
For the rest of the value, Ms Carroll agrees to waive it in favour of a stipulated charity event with the following format:
A Taylor Swift charity experience hosted at the club,
200 guests
Auctioned online
Proceeds split between a “rape survivors support” charity and family planning/abortion support
Each participant gets a personalised letter signed by Trump
Version A
I am pleased to support this rape support charity in recognition of what I did to Ms Carroll (exact wording is a quote of the original judgement)
Version B
I am happy to support family planning and needed abortions etc etc etc
Terms of the ticket purchase include
Should Mr. Trump repudiate or deny any of these claims the full ticket price is refundable, including interest compounding at 2% per month starting from the purchase date of the ticket.
Although the verdict was rendered Jan 26, the judgement was brought down on Feb 8. Barring other delay tactics (personal bankruptcy among them), Trump should have 30 days from the judgement - which makes it Monday, March 10 After that date, Carroll’s lawyers can start the process of collecting via whatever means they can legally use.
I’d like to think so, but when it comes to Trump, who knows?
Anyway, it should be as simple as the judge saying to Trump, “Mr. Trump, all other appellants in civil matters have to post a bond, and I see no reason why you should be treated any differently. Put up a bond, or the full amount in cash, or you don’t appeal.”
I’m sure that the judge would love to say, “Put up or shut up, Donnie,” but I’m sure that the judge is far too polite to say that.
Dude has lost another lawsuit, basically because he was lying about how much wealth he has.
Now he does not want to pay a bond, because he is continuing to lie about how much wealth he has.
“Mr. Trump has moved for an ‘administrative stay’ of enforcement pending the filing and disposition of any post-trial motions that he may file. He seeks that relief without posting any security,” wrote Kaplan in an order signed over the weekend.
“The Court declines to grant any stay, much less an unsecured stay, without first having afforded plaintiff a meaningful opportunity to be heard.”
I see that as saying that he’s giving the plaintiff a chance to respond before making a decision, rather than saying, “You better give me a reason not to grant Mr. Trump what he’s asking for.” And possibly this helps make sure that everything is being done by the book for the inevitable appeal attempt.
No way Carroll should have to even waste time in court for what seems to be obvious malfeasance in the first place but that’s not how the legal system works. It’s careful and precise for a reason.
