Civil Trial: Trump v E. Jean Carroll (Carroll wins, awarded $5 million, plus 83.3 million)

You’re out of your element, Donnie.

Trump raised almost a billion dollars for himself in 2020. When you add in the PACs, the RNC, and others, the Republican party spent nearly $3 billion dollars on Trump in 2020. $400,000 a day for the orange grifter is nothing.

If he loses the appeal at this level, there is one more level before SCotUS. If Circuit rejects his appeal (refuses to take it up), would he then be screwed, or can he try to drag it out, to the top?

He can certainly try to ask the SCOTUS to hear the case.

Normally I would say they would absolutely reject such a case but with this court? They might decide to hear the case. Anything to drag it out for their buddy.

What constitutional question is being asked that would require the Supreme Court to weigh in on a civil suit between two private citizens? He can’t argue the facts of the case because those were aldeady determined in the first trial, and he can’t argue the amount is excessive since it’s well within the guidelines and, as he’s told the court and stated in public many times, he is Very Very Rich and can easily afford it.

You keep saying this.

The Supreme Court has appellate jurisdiction. They can hear pretty much any case they want that applies to federal law. And, I am pretty sure, they can connect the dots on most any case they want to in order to get there if they want to.

And you keep not answering except to say that they’re going to act in a way they haven’t before and which no Supreme Court ever has before because Trump is their friend and they’ll do anything and everything for him, despite the fact that they’ve refused to hear him multiple times and ruled against him multiple other times.

BTW, they only have full appellate jurisdiction over federal cases and this case is being tried under New York state law.

The Constitution states that the Supreme Court has both original and appellate jurisdiction.

And we just saw the SCOTUS lean in on Trump’s side a couple weeks ago for no rational reason anyone can describe.

Again, I am pretty sure SCOTUS can conjure a reason to hear a case if they want to.

They ruled that Congress is the sole authority that can interpret the insurrection clause. There, I’ve just done what you say noone can do.

And per your own cite;

And they agreed to hear whether the president can be held responsible for actions in office when two courts before agreed he can be. They then delayed the hearing about as much as they can.

Explain Bush v. Gore.

If they were planning on declaring him above the law, why delay at all?

Asked and answered.

Because they will not say that. They can’t possibly say that. If they do say that Biden can send a SEAL team in the next day to capture them and imprison them in Guantanamo Bay (or just kill them) with no repercussion.

The delay is the point and they are playing along with Trump to do so.

Then no case, even state level, means anything. Trump can just appeal all of them to the Supreme Court, they’ll take them all, and hear arguments in October.

Who could stop them if they wanted to do that?

Nobody. So I guess that means that any discussion of any Trump trial is pointless?

Ok, so I am not clear on this one and the bond.

Trump loses. Chubb loses all the bond. Do they expect Trump to pay all of this bond to them? Or they just keep the fees and take the hit? (Ignoring him winning election and shooting everyone involved).

Trump wins. They get all the bond back and keep the fees?

So, regarding Chubb putting up the bond (I assume the Orange One had to chip in the usual 10% of that, or whatever the number is) it appears that E Jean Carroll has the right to object to the terms of the bond. This seems reasonable since she’s dealing with someone who traditionally never pays unless he has absolutely no choice.

A surety bond company normally requires collateral that exceeds the value of the bond. If Trump loses the appeal, the bonding company now owns the collateral.

Who knows what Chubb agreed to with Trump. There’s a story breaking today that they have financial links to Putin, but it’s behind a paywall, so i won’t link to it.
