They got squat AFAIK. Again Alec Guiness was the one box office draw. It was only later that it was understood that special effects could draw a crowd without having to engage in extensive contract negotiations.
And by the way, he should’ve been more respectful not only of a little kid but of a movie that probably paid him more than the rest of his career put together. He comes off like a douche in that article.
Perhaps. He had some misgivings as well. Nonetheless, watching Star Wars 100 times without circumspection may be cause of some legitimate concern.
I don’t see why Guinness wouldn’t be permitted to be dubious about all the adulation for a frankly over-rated film.
Bobby Knight, I think.
I don’t know what “instrumental” is in this context. I know that my husband said it was because of Dean Smith, but I don’t know why or how or what your question means.
O my word!! A discussion of “cultural literacy” about “movies” and , “actors”? <shudder> Have we really descended so far?
Culture is found in the libraries and private collections of “Those Who Matter” and the Symphonies and Ballets of which they are the patrons. Occasionally these works are shared by loaning it to a museum because “decent people” are generous and kind and wish to share the beauty they see (even if it won’t be understood).
Hey, if you’re up anyway, would ya grab me a Bud and crank up the tunes? I love Foghat!! And Bart Starr was Ringo’s brother you morons.
Yep. For raw numbers, that is. Wooden takes down everybody in win percentage, number of National Championships, number of undefeated seasons, and all-around class. Something Knight can’t even spell, much less possess.
For what worth i think Kind Hearts and Coronets is his best film.
Why is it that every damned time someone pulls out the “I can’t believe no one has mentioned X” card, someone has already mentioned it.
Besides being annoying as hell, it’s generally wrong.
Tell you what, how about we hold a nice Summarizing Proust competition?
You mean the guy who’s best remembered for being studied by one of the characters in Little Miss Sunshine?
Beeeeeeessst? WHAAAAAA!! AGGLE AGGLE. RAHH RAAHHHGJGKCKCKCKC!!! GAHHHCKLE!!! ASSHOLE!
Entries in Latin on the back of a carte du poste to the appropriate address (confirm with your Butler), right?
We could summarize Samual Beckett. I’ll start.
Hmm.
We’re still waiting.
D’oh!
Relevancy of mastered subject matter notwithstanding, there is only one true indicator of ones having earned cultural literacy: Sitzfleisch
The culturally literate have big booties?
Wish I could. I never could figure out what Proust wrote about in his first book.
Go.
D’oh!
Just want to say that I think that Sir Alec Guiness was not only a superb actor but was indeed a legend.
Also I’ve heard of Charlie Chaplin,Buster Keaton,Bill Hayley, and for that matter Beethoven and Handel and I’m not that old.
