A few years ago, I remember hearing about some Dems making a big deal over Bush calling them the “Democrat party” or some other innoculous nonsense. What was the big deal about that? Isnt the Democratic party filled with democrats? So what if someone called them the Democrat party? Or have I totally missed something here? 
Because ‘Democrat’ is the noun form, not the adjective form. How would you feel if someone repeatedly called you by a nickname that you never used, and continued to do so after you informed him of what you wanted to be called.

It’s the same thing as waving your hands right up to your kid sister’s face and saying “I’m not touching you!” It wouldn’t be offensive in a vacuum, but it’s something assholes do so they have plausible deniability w/r/t someone who doesn’t know the context. Such as the OP.
