As a public service, I offer one word: Babelfish. With the caveat that it’s got to be in French, Chinese, German, Portugese, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Korean or Russian. Just toss the offending foreign words in and copy out the amusingly butchered idioms and syntax. Post it as a reply with the note that it’s an unedited machine translation, and you’re legally covered.*
I do have to say that I’m surprised Babelfish hasn’t grown much in its translation capacities in the past three years. Keeping in mind the original brouhaha stemmed from a posting in Dutch / Flemish, the best I can offer is to wash it through a German translation and hope the word roots and syntax are close enough to get the general idea.
If you want me to, I’ll translate [to the best of my abilities] the whole Flemish/Dutch post.
Or put it in Babelfish. Might be a hell of a lot funnier.
the suggestion to use bablefish is a nice one but does not solve the problem as presented.
the mods are supposed to read (pretty much all ) threads, and even if some one were to post an addendum (either in that post or in another) w/the bablefish translation, that wouldn’t necessarily mean that it was that translation, and they’d still have to do it themselves.
So, it’s a concession to this USA based board to post in English, and a reasonable one IMHO (with the caveat that allows for an occasional “je ne c’est quoi” )
